GO E E 50 FATAL JOY RIDE It developed Thursday that two Grants Puss women were in the cur Tuesday night in which Joseph li. Smith and James T. White were joy riding from Grants I'ass to Medford, and which was overturned at a tdinrp turn near the old Myers place mile northwest of Central I'oint, fcill j 11 tr Smith. Mrs. George Radford suffered n broken arm and hruises, hut the other woman in the car, Mrs. 0. 11. Kisiiuinn, escaped with minor hurts as did Wliito, who is the Grants I'ass manager of the Oregon Gas and Klee tric company. Efforts made to keep secret the presence of the women in tho ear were unavailing It is claim ed that the party was enrotile to Medford to gel some fishinir tackle hero which belonged to Wliile anil that they intended to make a ipiick trip and get hack to Grants I'ass by midnight. Smith, who was about '10 years old, was driving the ear. No funeral services will be held over Smith's body either in Medford or Grants I'ass, and the body will be shipped to Chicago, the dead man's former home, laic tonight. Hoover, who litis been chosen by President Wilson ns food administrator under the pending leg islation was installed in his new of fices beer today and soon will name assistants who nro expected to work without pay.
