Southerners from all over the val ley wero in attendance when Presi dent John Dill of the Dixio associa tion called the meeting to order and requested M. 0. Heed, chairman of tile urogram committee to preside. K. P. Campbell, "Dick Posey," opened with a rending from James Whitconib Riley. President Dill fol lowed with a cordial welcome address. The response was given by Dr. T. B. Ford, chaplain of the editorial asso ciation and district superintendent of the Salem district of the M. E. church. Addresses by H. K. Greer and Geo. II. I limes completed the addresses on the program. iA stirring rendition of "Dixie"-by the association concluded the pro gram, after which adjournment was made to the vicinity of the band stand where the Ashland band gave concert complimentary to the tiouthcrnei'K. Announcement ot tho marriage ot Miss Catherine Hawkins to Mr. Charles Kelly of San Francisco was made known In Medford Thursday afternoon by Miss Hawkins' sister, -Mrs. ,i. v. Dunlop. The young couplo wero married the first part of tho week In San Francisco. Mrs. Kelly has visited Medford a number of times and consequently has mado many friends, who wish the young . couplo every success during thctr lives. They will make their noire In San Francisco, where Mr. Kelly has employment. The Woman's Home Missionary so ciety of the First Methodist Episcopal church held Its regular meeting on the Meeker lawn, across from the church Friday evening at 8 o'clock Following the business session a hort program of music and recita tions were given. There were a large number of members and their friends in attendance. ' Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Newman re turned Friday morning, after spend lng the past Bix months with relatives In Tennessee. Mr. Newman was for merly employed on the Westerlund orchards. Mrs. Lottie Van Scoy of Eagle Point was isltlng relatives and friendB In Medford this week. Miss Francis Ash left last Saturday for a two week's visit In San Fran cisco with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. CliFa. Manning spent the first part of the week at Gold Ray visiting friends. A very pretty wedding took place at 11 o'clock Thursday morning, AK. 0th, when Miss Venlta Hamilton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Hamil ton, of this city, became the bride of Mr. Franz A. Steffcn of Los Angeles, Calif. The Rev. S. V. Carsten of the Baptist church officiated. Tho wed ding took placo at the bride's home in this city. Tho newly wedded couple wore recipients of many costly and handsome gifts. The bride Is a beau tiful girl and her rare ability as a musician haB won her many friends. She has taught music in Medford for a number of years and has a class of about seventy-five pupils who much regret her departure. Mr. Stoflon is a young man of ploasipg per. sonallty, proprietor of the Auto Igni tion company of Los Angeles. After the wedding dinner the couple loft in their car for the south. Before returning to Los Angeles permanent ly they will make a two weeks tour through California. They will be at home to their many friends after Sep tember 1st in Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. J. E. Stuart and Miss Helen Dahl entertained with a "Porch Party" Tuesday evening In honor of Miss Jean Budge and Miss Grace Mar tin. Miss Martin has been the house guest of Mrs. William Budge for the past week. Miss Budge and Miss Martin loft Thursday evening for Berkeley where they will attend the fall term ot school. flr. and Mrs. J. D. Buchanan have as their guests for a few days, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Huckett of McMlnn- viile, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Huckett arrived in their automobiles the first of the week. The two couplo will make a trip to Crater Lake within a few days. Mrs. E. G. Trowbridge entertained Wednesday afternoon In honor of Mrs. J. G. Lldgett who is her guest from Pittsburg. Fancy work and social chat took up most of the after noon. Dainty refreshments wore served. Dr. Rollins, Mrs. Rollins, and son, Bob, accompanied by Miss Swindler, Mrs. HovIoub and daughter, Carol Fay, returned Saturday from a two weeks outing to Crater Lake and Union creek. Miss Jeanette Patterson is giving a theatre party after which a dance will follow for the pleasure of her guest, Miss Kathcrine Clements of Grants Pass, this Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln McCormack Mr. Charles Nowhall, Mr. Waldo Wil Hard, and Mrs. Stuart Patterson left Wednesday for an outing to Crater Lake and Klamath Falls. (Mrs. F. H. Madden. Mrs. Chamber lain of Portland and Mrs. E. H. Han ley left Thursday morning for week's outing at Crater Lake. They left In Mrs. Hanley's car. Mrs. Lila Purnall and daughter re turned to Medford Tuesday after vis lting with Mrs. Purnall's parents, Professor and Mrs. Willis of Salem Miss Olive Thome of Ashland has been the guest of her sister. Miss Clayre Johnson, for two days. She returned Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Trowbridge who left for Portland last week as dele gates for the Knights of Pythias re turned Tuesday morning. Miss Helen Cummings ot Portland arrived Thursday morning and will be the house guest of Mrs. Walte Bowne for two weeks. m Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Hubbard and son, Chestor, left Monday for Sa Francisco whore they will spend tw weeks visiting friends. Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Emmens and Mr, and Mrs. George Collins leave Sunday for a ten days motor trip In the Mo Kenzie river region. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Ash and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mc.Kee returned Thursday from a three days outing to Crater Lake. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Jaqua returned the first part of the week aftsr visit ing a week In Portland with relatives. Mr. and MrB. George B. Carpenter returned Wednesday evening from a week'e motor trip to San Francisco. Miss Louise Daddysman, of Jack sonville, spent the week-end In Med ford as the guest of Angle Hailey. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Beauchamp and daughter are spending the sum mer at Seaside, Oregon, Mrs. W. T. York entertained at a unchoon Wednesday' aftornoon for the pleasure of Miss Jean Budge and her guost Miss Grace Martin, who leave shortly for Berkeley where they will attend the fall tonus of school. The rooms wore docorntod with yel low flowers and trimmings of the same shade. Tho dining room was adorned with Golden Glow blossoms, with -centerpiece of the same flower. The color scheme was carriod out through the luncheon. Those who attended were Mrs, J. E. Mr. Brown is a graduate of the University of Ari zona, and has employment in Los Angeles, where the young couple will reside. Their many friends wish them every success ot hie. Mrs. Geo. W. Cherry entertained very charmingly on Wednesday after noon, at her home on ( annul Hill in honor of her guest, Mrs. Mabel P. Stone, of Modesto, California. The guests of the afternoon were Mes- tlames Win. James, Sclienk, Harmon, Harris, Janes, E. C. Graham, DuBois, Carlton Janes, Herbert L. Nohiit and Miss Aril Harmon. The Grizzly Hikers established permanent camp at Crater : Lake Tuesday where dally hikes will be ftfnde to different points of Interest The party will lncludo In their travels throe-day hike around the rim of Crater Lake. They will spond about two weeks there. Mrs. Hovlous and daughter, Carol Fay, and Miss Swindler left Wednes day for Glondale, Oregon, whero-thcy will visit their sister. They will return about the first of September in timo to open up the conservatory for the fall term of school. The Epworth League hold a wolncr roast on Bear 'creek, near Jackson street bridge Tuesday evening. A good number was In attendance and after business transactions a bonfire started and story telling and "eats" followed. Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Butler and family left Medford Saturday night for an extended auto trip to Crater Lake. They will make stop-ovors alBo at Lake Odcll, The Dalles, Bend Portland and Harrisburg. J. W. Johnson and family, and brother, O. II. Johnson and family of Ashland, returned Thursday trom week's outing to Crater Lake. They returned by way of Klamath Falls. Miss Bess Bryan arrived home Sat urday after a two weeks outing with a party of friends to tho Crater Lake National park, Union creek, Prospeci and the Rogue Elk Resort. Mrs. E. F. Guthrie left for Victoria British Columbia, Tuesday morning, where she will visit relativos and friends for two weeks.
