JMBEK 47 TOURIST MISTAKEN FOR BANK ROBBER REGINALD BASS IN LOCAL HOSPITAL In ten se excitem ent prevailed here th is m orning w hen a young man was b ro u g h t to th e H erm iston Gen e ra l h ospital w ith tw o bullet w ounds one in his neck and the other in his side, received from a s ta te police of ficer n ear Irrig o n d u rin g th e n ig h t. T he shooting resulted from a mis ta k e n description of a ca r used by th e Jo h n Day bank robbers, who had rid d led th e o ffic er’s car n ea r A r lin g to n tw o hou rs before. The officers had secured an o th e r c a r to give chase tow ard Irrigon. T he coupe w hich was ovetaken was a 1928 C hevrolet coupe, said to be th e exact c o u n te rp a rt of th e car in w hich th e bank robbers escaped. T h e officers opened fire low on the car. T hree bu llets entered th e fen der and gas ta n k , and th e fo u rth sh o t w ent h ig h er to en te r th e d r i v e rs’ rig h t side ju s t above th e hip. T he fifth b u llet stru c k th e young m an in th e neck and passed th ro u g h h is cheek. , T he young man who was w ound ed was Reginold Bass of M ichigan. H e had been w orking n ear G ran ts P ass and was rid in g w ith C harles H usband, w ho owned th e car. H us b a n d ’s home is in A lvin, n ear B ak ersfield, Calif. H e was going to the w heat fields in seach of w ork. Bass is th e son of a m in iste r and appears to be a college stu d e n t. He is very ill a t th e h ospital and no visito rs are allow ed.
