The officers had secured an o th e r
c a r to give chase tow ard Irrigon.
T he coupe w hich was ovetaken was
a 1928 C hevrolet coupe, said to be
th e exact c o u n te rp a rt of th e car in
w hich th e bank robbers escaped.
T h e officers opened fire low on the

sh o t w ent h ig h er to en te r th e d r i
v e rs’ rig h t side ju s t above th e hip.

H usband, w ho owned th e car. H us
b a n d ’s home is in A lvin, n ear B ak
ersfield, Calif. H e was going to the
w heat fields in seach of w ork. Bass
is th e son of a m in iste r and appears
to be a college stu d e n t. He is very
ill a t th e h ospital and no visito rs
