Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, December 1, 2021 -- SEVEN Sheriff’s Report ...continued from page six -MCSO report- ed checks at the Willow Creek Campground/Corps of Engineers, Willow Creek Rd., Willow Creek Terrace Assisted Living , Willow Creek Reservoir and Lex- ington. -MCSO received a re- port of a motor vehicle acci- dent, involving a single ve- hicle rollover with injuries, on Rhea Creek Rd., Ione. A Jeep was in the creek. The reporter was in a semi. -MCSO received a re- port that a woman lost her emotional support dog, a St. Bernard/Husky mix at the Driftwood RV Park on Kunze Lane in boardman. Boardman Police Dept. responded and said they would keep an eye out. -MCSO conducted an area check at the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge in Irrigon. -MCSO received a re- port of a Chihuahua-mix dog running loose in Irri- gon. Officer was unable to locate. -MCSO officer con- ducted a check of the Wil- low Creek Reservoir in Heppner. -MCSO received a re- port of a theft of a wallet out of the reporter’s pickup console. The caller found the wallet. -MCSO received report of a black & white dog on Utah in Irrigon. Dog took off. -MCSO officer com- pleted foot patrol of down- town Heppner. -MCSO received report of a male with a bag of tools loitering at the back of the Irrigon Learning Center. Officer was unable to locate. -MCSO received report of a lost black and white female hound dog with a neon collar at the OHV park. Officer was unable to locate the dog. -MCSO completed an extra patrol on McCall Lane in Irrigon concerning suspi- cious activity with regard to thefts. -MCSO received report of a white male with a black hoodie, black sunglasses and dark pants hiding by a garbage can at Love’s Travel Stop on Tower Rod in Boardman. The man was reported to have said on the phone that he was hiding from the cops. He got into a vehicle with no license plate and headed to a Motel Six. -MCSO received report from a subject on Pheasant Lane in Irrigon that he was locked out of his running vehicle. -MCSO received re- port of a suspicious kay- ak beached near the bunk house area at the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge in Irrigon. MCSO made contact and determined everything was okay. -MCSO received report of carpet in the road on Hwy. 730, Irrigon. MCSO responded and removed the carpet. -MCSO received report of officer initiated activ- ity at the Irrigon Marina, Riverside Ave. in Hep- pner, Willow Creek Camp- ground, Heppner, and sus- picious activity on Main St. in Heppner. -MCSO received re- quest from Gilliam County for assistance in locating a vehicle headed East from Arlington, with two males inside, possibly involved in a disturbance. Officer was unable to locate the vehicle. -MCSO assisted Gil- liam County with a courtesy ride for a female to the Washington State Patrol. November 14: Morrow County Sheriff ’s Office reported extra patrol and checks on McCall Lane in Irrigon regarding suspi- cious activity. -MCSO reported offi- cer checks at Willow Creek County Club in Heppner and Miller Manufacturing, both on Hwy 74. -MCSO received a re- port of a white Toyota Cam- ry “going at least 40 mph” on S.E. Utah in Irrigon. MCSO was out of position. -MCSO received a re- port of a cow out on W. Eighth Rd. in Irrigon. -MCSO received a re- port of a vehicle parked in the middle of the travel land on I-84 Boardman. MCSO and Oregon State Police made contact with the ve- hicle, which was towed as a hazard. -MCSO received a re- port that a silver Chrysler 300 sped through Utah in Irrigon, headed toward 10 th St. MCSO was unable to locate the vehicle. -MCSO reported sev- eral civil service contact attempts in Boardman. -MCSO received a re- port a blue side-by-side was driving on Utah and was headed back to California (avenue). The caller said that the next time it came by his residence he was “going to do something about it.” MCSO was unable to locate the vehicle. -MCSO received re- quest for extra patrol on McCall Lane in Irrigon. -MCSO received report of a bicycle in the middle of the sidewalk near the library in Heppner. The officer was unable to locate the bike. -MCSO received report from a women on Olson Rd. in Boardman who said she had been hearing someone shooting what sounded like a semi-automatic in the of the arms on the railroad crossing down on Paterson Ferry, but no lights flashing. -MCSO received report of four shots fired on N.W. Oregon Ave. in Irrigon coming from the west. area of Kunze and Olson for about a half an hour. She said she has also heard music coming from the area and thinks that it may be a party. -MCSO received report Concrete can be damaged by ice melt It is common knowl- edge that rock salt will dam- age concrete sidewalks and driveways. However, what is not well known is that all ice-melts can damage concrete. Although concrete sidewalks and driveways look very solid, concrete is actually a porous material that can and does absorb water. In cold weather the snow or ice is a solid and does not penetrate into concrete. But, when ice melts are applied to snow or ice, the melting ice/snow is turned into a salt/water mix and is absorbed by con- crete. When temperatures reach 25 degrees the water refreezes in the concrete causing pressure that can create a pit or spall in the surface. Freshly poured con- crete is the most suscep- tible to spalling damage, which would include all the sidewalks just poured in the Chase and Gale street areas of Heppner. The city suggests shoveling all that you can then add sand and if you must, a very thin layer of rock salt. Other types of ice melts may offer lower melting temperatures but likely will cause a chemical reaction that is the same effect or worse as rock salt in damage to the concrete sidewalks.
