December tends to be a pretty busy month at the Terrace and will be again this year, even though re- strictions will dictate a few changes. One of the first endeavors for residents in- terested in decorating their doors will be the Christmas craft started on the 3 rd and finished on the 17 th . The textures and festive colors will make the hallways more receptive, for sure. Those halls will get a decking out on the 8 th when residents complete the dec- orating of the Terrace for Derrick Smith enroute to scoring in the fourth quarter. -Photo by Damon Brosnan. By Blake Carter The fall season for the 2021-2022 school year has officially closed as the state championships in football were played this past Sat- urday. However, with one season ending, another is soon to follow. The Heppner High school’s basketball teams and wrestling teams will begin their seasons this Correction the holiday. This activity is always followed by car- oling and homemade soup for all participants. On the 12 th , which is National Gingerbread House Day, residents will be able to join the staff for decorating houses that will then be on display. Of course, some good-natured competitive spirit some- times surfaces at this time. Christmas Eve will find everyone listening to “The Christmas Story” while they enjoy hot cocoa before heading for bed, so Santa can come. Christmas Day will be a celebration of treats, stockings and gifts from the Christmas Angels before a delicious Christmas ham dinner. Everyone will be invit- ed on New Year’s Day to share predictions for 2022 and to look back over 2021. Of course, everyone en- joys calendar days that pay homage to various foods and to various individuals, partly because they can be learning experiences, partly because some guar- antee great-tasting treats. Next month is no different, beginning on Saturday, January 4, which will see chocolate chip cookies at the tables because it is des- ignated National Cookie Day. Pizza will have to be included during Pizza Week, which begins on the 10 th . National Biscuit and Gravy Day will mean that combination served for breakfast on the 14 th . And everyone will be able to contribute to morning dis- cussions in January, as Elvis Presley, birds, Wheel of Fortune, volunteer firemen, Popeye the Sailor and fris- bees will be featured topics. Possibly National Hug- ging Day on the 21 st will bring memories of special hugs on days gone by, and more compliments than usual might be heard in the Terrace on National Compliment Day, the 24 th . But laughter will probably reign on January 27 th , when residents and staff will be invited to celebrate Nation- al Clothes-Clashing Day. Yes, this holiday month and January will be busy, with weekly and special activities and topics of in- terest.
