Although Mom hadn’t lived in Hep- pner for many years, she was born and spent a won- derful childhood there, met, fell in love and mar- ried Jim Sumner there, had their first child and taught school there. So, it was no surprise that they both chose to rest in peace back home in Heppner, where they began. Mom’s funer- al service was held Dec.1, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and she was laid to rest in the Hep- pner Masonic Cemetery surrounded by family and friends. Special thanks to Father Papa for perform- ing the Funeral Mass. It was also an honor to have Mom’s longtime friend of 50 years Father Condon, assisting on the altar. The Parish Hall was opened and coffee served, thanks to Shanny and Mark Mill- er. Planning from long dis- tance could have been a challenge, if not for the help of many wonderful people. A big thank you to Susan Hisler for her or- ganization and attention to detail! Missy Turner Lind- say coordinated the dinner at the Elks Lodge and Pat- ty Pappas prepared all the meat. The dinner was put on jointly by the Heppner Lady Elks and the Catholic Altar Society. We are so thankful to the women of Heppner for providing the delicious food and their help in the kitchen. We were very pleased with the floral arrangements created by Merry Chandler at Murray’s Drug. Special thanks to Pat and Trisha Sweeney for their compas- sion and guidance and to Brian and Susie Thompson for providing their Lodge as a home away from home for our family to gather.
