Walt’s real passion were lowers and his vegetable garden, where he grew many dif- ferent kinds of vegetables, all started from seed in his greenhouse. He enjoyed sharing his produce with family and friends. He was recognized by the Lodi Gar- den Club for the many years he spent planting lowers on Lower Sacramento Road. In later years his friend Cor- nello Garcia helped with his project. When he was able, Walt liked playing golf and pheasant hunting. Walt is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maryanne; their daughter, Marlys of Marietta, GA; son, Kyle (Sharon) and his sons, Mat- thew and Blake, all of Lake Barrington, IL; his sister, Dorothy Stefani of Ione; a sister-in-law, Donna Berg- strom of Heppner; and sev- eral nieces and nephews. Robert Y. ‘Bob’ Perry Robert Y. “Bob” Perry, 92, passed away on Satur- day, January 30, 2016, at his eldest son’s home in Pendleton, OR. A grave- side memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, February 6, at 11 a.m. at High View Cem- etery in Ione. Bob was born August 23, 1923 on the “Old Bene- dict Place” near Ione, the son of Rosseter and Mi- gnonette Young Perry. He attended Ione and Mor- gan grades schools and high school at Arlington, OR. He heeded the call to defend his country after Pearl Harbor and enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1942. He was allowed to earn his high school diploma and then started his military service in June 1942. Bob served in England and Scotland as a Motor Machinist’s Mate, First Call and participated in the D-Day operation. He received an honorable discharge in July 1945. Upon returning home, Bob attended Oregon State College for a year and then went to work for Pacific Northwest Bell in Port- land, OR as a lineman and then phone and business systems installer, retiring in 1983 after 36 years. After retirement, he came back to the farm on Wil- low Creek, where he had many wonderful memories growing up. He loved his horses, raising livestock and tending to his orchard. The bracelet was de- signed by Sandford, who is the reigning Miss OHSRA 2015-2016, and donated by Vicki Christensen of Tres Rios Silver. The bracelet is valued at $200.
