When he was 2, the family moved back to the family farm on Valby Road at lone. He and his sib lings attended Rocky Bluff School. He also attended school in lone, graduating from Heppner High School in 1941. A fter graduation he worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle. He joined the U.S. Navy Seabees, seeing service in North Africa and The Pacific Theatre during WW1I. After Discharge, Clarence returned to Hep pner where he met and married the love of his life, Clarice Moore, in February of 1947. He went to work for Rosewall Motor Co., Hep pner Motors, and Farley Motor Co., where he retired from in 1987. Awards, including Star Greenhand, Chapter Farmer and DeKalb Award; the Distinguished Service award and the Honorary Chapter Farmer award will be given. The young people taking part in the day’s events are readers who have met all four of their Accelerated Reading goals for the year. You may remember that two years ago HES readers visited the Portland Zoo, and last year enjoyed a day of festivities at Cutsforth Park. O f course 150 students and staff traveling to Cas cade Locks and cruising the Columbia is quite expen sive. HES Parent Teacher Club is providing bottled water and a snack for the trip, and students are bring ing their own lunches to help defray costs. The HES magazine sale pays for a great deal of the trip, but additional funds are needed, so a baked goods raffle is planned! Tickets for the yummy items will be on sale at the HES and HHS offices, or you may drop a check in the mail and Mrs. Sweeney will fill out your tickets for you! The school address is P.O. Box 367. The win ning tickets will be drawn on Monday, May 20, and the cost o f the tickets is 25 cents each or 6 for $ 1.
