As o f that date, hunters 17 and under will be required to wear a fluo rescent orange exterior gar ment or hat when hunting game mammals or upland game birds (except turkey) with any firearm. The Fish and Wild life Commission adopted the new rule last year to protect youth hunters from vision-related firearm in cidents. Adult hunters are also strongly encouraged to wear hunter orange when in the field. Exterior garments include shirts, jackets, coats, vests or sweaters. Hats may include any head covering such as a hat or bandana. The upper garment or hat must be visible in all directions; hunter orange camouflage patterns are acceptable. Archery, turkey and migratory bird hunters are exempt from the hunter orange requirement, since theyhave excellent eyesight and wearing hunter orange could reduce hunter suc cess.
