Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, June 29,2011 - THREE Carlson Doherty reunion to Local graduates receive Northwest FCS scholarships graduates be held from OSU The “Blackhorse” O’Dochartaigh (Doherty) family is hosting an ex tended family reunion this weekend. On Saturday, July 2 at 6 p.m., a Ceili will be held upstairs at the Hep pner Elks Club for family and community members of all ages who would ljke to attend. Ceili is the Gaelic word for a gathering of friends and family and the sharing of traditional Irish music, dance, fun, stories, song and even poetry. Ev eryone is encouraged to bring instruments, voices and talents of all kinds for an open mic. An open mic sign-up sheet will be avail able at the lodge. Sam Keator and Anne Doherty (Paul) will also be teaching Irish dance steps and “calling” some dances. On Sunday, July 3, family only is invited to gather at the Morrow County Fair Grounds for a potluck picnic beginning at 1 p.m. Plates and eating utensils will be provided, but all who attend are asked to bring their own bever ages. Two local seniors have received $ 1,500 schol arships from Northwest Farm Credit Services. Justin Gutierrez is the son of Craig Gutierrez of Heppner. He was a member of the football and b ase ball teams, a c tiv e in FFAandNa- Justin tional Honor Gutierrez Society, and a group leader in his church youth group. He also was a coaching assistant for Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams. He will attend Washington State University and study agriculture. Brett Harrison is the son o f Travis and Kirsten H a r r iso n o f Lexing ton. He was p resid en t o f his 4-H Brett Harrison C lub and F FA chapter, a member of the National Honor Society and active in his church youth group. He will attend Washington State University and study ag economics. Northwest Farm Credit Services awarded 44 of the $1,500 scholar ships— a total of $66,000— to sons and daughters of Northwest FCS customers in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington; eight high school students and three college students from each state were awarded the scholarships.
