The group took several trips on the stomach churning rides before adjourning to Clackamas Town Center for a little shopping. On Condon’s first possession, Micah Stillman took advantage of a Knight fumble to run it back for a 32 yard score. The point after was good. Condon/ Wheeler came right back and answered, tying up the game at 8-8. But after that, the Cardinals got moving, scoring 22 points in the first and second quarter to take a commanding 44-14 lead at the half. The Knights did not score in the second half as lone rolled 56-14. “It was a game we had to have,” said Coach Dennis Stefani. “We needed to have a victory” after a couple of tough league losses. The team had found out in the past week that they were still in the playoff hunt after previously think ing that only the top two teams would advance. The team needs league wins to stay in contention. The Cardinals air attack took a hit in the second quarter when quar terback Zac Orem left the game with a dislocated shoulder. Tanner Rietmann continued his role as all- around, all-purpose player by taking over the duties. Besides leading the team in rushing with 209 yards on 16 carries, he also led the team in tackles with 17, seven of those solo efforts. The Cardinals won the game on the ground, tallying 518 yards rush ing. Alex Rietmann added 155 yards on nine carries and Micah Stillman had 81 yards on eight carries. The Knights also kept the ball mainly on the ground, gaining 264 yards on 52 carries. Defensively, Mi cah Stillman had 15 tack les (five solo) and Marco Juarez had 11 (seven solo.) Jordan Snyder blocked his second punt of the season which the Knights recov ered in the endzone for an lone safety. Despite the team being a “little dinged up,” Coach Stefani was encour aged to see the Cards get a handle on the turnovers that had been hurting them in earlier games. The Cardinals head out on a road trip this Fri day, trekking over the Cas cades to play McKenzie. Game time is 6 p.m. tember where the proceeds benefited JDRF. JDRF is a leading research organiza tion in the effort to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes. Great strides have been made in diabetes treatments in the past decade or two Mustangs begin winding down volleyball season but a cure remains elusive. Beth’s Buddies are still collecting donations for JDRF until November 1. For more information, contact Anne Morter at 541 - 422-7429.
