Seventeen of the De- Spain Team showed up to walk in support o f Chris, Bob and Aloha’s son, who was diagnosed with M ul tiple Sclerosis 20 years ago. Aloha shared that the MS walk is very much like a family reunion, we are get ting so many participants from previous walks. “The sharing and enthusiasm of the day gave our fam ily more of an insight on what it’s like to have MS. Having a family member with MS made it very poignant.” Bob & Aloha have served as committee mem bers since the walks concep tion. Bob came up with the idea o f serving a free break fast and has been heading it up every year since. At least 130 walkers Marriages helped raise $9,000 with more donations coming in. “ Everyone came together with a common goal, a cure for MS”, commented Meri- lee McDowell the Heppner w alk organizer. As I w atched all the walkers sign-up I was filled with so much awe and gratitude. I know this last year hasn’t been easy for a lot o f people so for them to give so abundantly was very rewarding. It almost never pays to remodel a kitchen in antici pation o f selling. You can, however, make it bright and attractive. A good start is to paint or refinish cabinets and hang cheerful, new curtains. on a damp cloth or sponge. The oven and stove should be free o f grime, grease and fin gerprints. Clean the stove’s ventilating hood, too. Counters should look clean and expansive. Kitch en appliances take up a lot o f space on counters. Remove all but a few o f the most dec orative pieces. Hang a plant in a comer for some life and greenery. The extra effort will pay. Kitchens count! Morrow County Court weekly meeting held The Morrow County Court met on April 8 in Ir rigon with Judge Tallman, C om m issioner G rieb and C om m issioner Rea in at tendance. Follow ing is a summary o f those meeting provided by Leann Rea. The c o u rt a p proved monthly Accounts Payable in the amount o f $139,426.36. The road department provided the following re port: Road Canyon Bridge t The crew finished hauling and placing rip rap material along the embankments and w ing walls. Also hauled and placed 3” minus rock for the approaches on both sides of the bridge up to the top of the head walls. On Tuesday April 7,h the six pre-cast concrete deck pieces were hauled to the site and put into place with a crane. The forms for the concrete end caps were stated the 8,h. Upper Rhea Creek - Part o f the crew is continuing with the sloping o f the banks, cleaning ditches and widen ing the narrow areas. Road grading - The crew is con tinuing w ith the spring road grading. Currently they are working in the Upper Little B utter C reek, Sunflow er Flat, and the Valby areas. Road Sweeping - The crew finished sweeping the roads in the Boardman area and started working their way south towards the lone area. After leaving Boardman, the crew has swept Bombing Range Road, H om estead Lane, Juniper Canyon Lane and Ione-Boardman Road. Blowing sand - The court and the road departm ent discussed the problem o f the sand blow ing across Bombing Range Road, be tween Finley Landfill and Homestead Road. Misc. - It was reported that some of the crew assisted the county school district and the City o f H eppner to repair the b rid g e on Q u aid Street. This replacement/repair will facilitate the movement of the school buses around the road construction that is taking place on H igh way 74. The road depart ment presented two crossing permits between Umatilla Electric and the court to ap prove one overhead and one buried line. Permit request approved and signed. The court awarded vehicles to the following: John Bow les, 2003 Ford Crown Victoria; James Ca son, 2001 Chevrolet Impala; Roy Golden, 2001 Chevrolet Impala; Rey Rivera, 2000 Ford Crown Victoria; Lucy Veliz, 1995 Jeep Cherokee; Kenneth Rogers, 1997 Ford F I 50 P ick-up; and M att Best, 1997 Chevrolet Lu- mina. The court conduct ed the following business: Heard a presentation from Lt. Col. Bob Stein and oth ers regarding the disposition o f the m ustard currently stored at the Army Depot. Reviewed and approved a purchase pre-authorization request o f a Dell computer for the Morrow County Pub- lie Works. Reviewed and approved a purchase pre authorization request o f a Dell computer for Children and Family Services. Re viewed a letter to the court from the Morrow County Livestock Growers Associa tion regarding their request for the county to provide additional funding to the W ildlife S erv ices. C o n ducted a teleconference with a representative o f Waste C onnections Inc. (Finley Buttes Landfill) regarding the new ly proposed fees for the disposition of large anim als and other items. C o m m issio n Rea ask ed if it would be possible to graduate the fees into place, rather than have the* very large increase as proposed. The representative stated he would take the proposal to the upper management and see if they would agree to such a plan. Reviewed and signed a letter o f support for HB2646. This bill would be o f a benefit to the local pop lar tree farms. Reviewed and sign two contracts. In preparation for the upcoming budget meet ings, Greg Sweek, County Assessor, provided for the court’s review the estimated assessed values for 2009. The final assessed value in formation will not be avail able until the first part o f September. That is w hen the county will receive the final values for utility properties that are appraised by the Department o f Revenue. Irrigon. It was transported to Pet Rescue. -M C SO re c e iv e d report o f a motor vehicle accident on Hwy. 730 in Irrigon. -MCSO received re port o f illegal activity at a residence Irrigon. -MCSO received re port of a fight between two males in Heppner. MCSO arrived at the scene and de ployed a Tazer. Steven Nils Brudevold, 28, was arrested for Assault IV, Harassment and D isorderly Conduct. He was lodged at Umatilla County Jail with $12,000 bail. -MCSO cited Chad Allen Hammerschmidt, 38, for Violation o f the Speed Limit, 87 mph in a 65 mph zone. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received relay from Benton County Sher iff's Office that an Irrigon w om an rep o rted a large bang and saw flashlights in an “empty trailer.” -BPD arrested Leo- bardo Jacquez, III, 33, for Child Endangerment/Seat- belt. -Boardman Am bu lance received request for mutual aid from Arlington Ambulance for a 20-year- old male com plaining o f pain in his knee and ankle. He was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital. -Irrigon Ambulance, Irrigon Fire Dept, received report o f a two-car motor vehicle accident assisted. -H e p p n e r A m b u lance received request for an am bulance for a male subject regarding to a tazer deployment. Ja n . 30: M orrow C ounty S h e riff’s O ffice received report from the Umatilla Army Depot that a worker who lives in the Lexington area scheduled to work at m idnight had not shown up for work. The worker, who had a flat tire, showed up safely. -M C SO re c e iv e d report o f multiple cows on 1-84. The cattle were put back in the pasture. -MCSO received a report o f non-stop barking dogs at a residence in Irrig on. The owner said he would look into bark collars. -MCSO received a report o f a golden lab at a residence in Hardman. ^MCSO received re port o f an MIP party with a $5 cover charge at a resi dence on Clarks Canyon Rd. Twenty-five subjects were cited for MIP; four subjects were cited for Furnishing Alcohol to Minors. -MCSO received re port o f a vehicle colliding with a deer on Hwy. 74 in Heppner. The subject was going to drive her car to the Sherifif’s Office to report the accident. -M C S O re c e iv e d report o f a subject whose vehicle was stuck in the snow on Hwy. 53 and he was walking out. His wife had stayed in the vehicle. MCSO units responded in four wheelers and located the subjects. -B oardm an Police Dept, arrested David Rus sell Robert Foster, 39, for Driving While Suspended- misdemeanor. BPD received report of a non-injury accident with one person involved in the accident leaving the scene. BPD got the information -BPD received re port o f an old employee on the complainant’s property, trespassing and harassing the employees. One juvenile male was cited for Criminal Trespass II and MlP-alco- hol. Another juvenile male was cited for Criminal Tres pass II. BPD arrested Arturo Francisco Perez, Jr., 18, for Criminal Trespass II. J a n . 31: M orrow C ounty S h e riff’s O ffice received report from a Hep pner subject that a male child was in his house and wouldn’t leave the bedroom. He also reported five or six adults in his house that wouldn't not speak to him or leave the house because of their religious beliefs. -MCSO received re port from a juvenile female that her Ipod was stolen from the locker room in Ir rigon. -M C SO cited D i ana lola Creamer, 39, for Violation o f the Basic Rule, driving 74 mph in a 55 mph zone. -MCSO received re port from an Irrigon subject that he had received threat ening letters in the male.
