The Field office is located in Condon and is staffed by Sue Greer, the Regional Program R epresentative (RPR). These grants support and build the ca pacity o f watershed coun cils, soil and water conser vation districts, tribal gov ernments, and other local partners. Over the past 10 years, OWEB has awarded more than $19 million to these 6 counties, for the completion o f a wide range o f projects. For example, OWEB recently awarded $266,000 to improve fish and wildlife habitat on the Middle Fork o f the John Day. The need for the new region is a result o f an increase in grant appli cations and an increasing number of open grants and total grants being adminis tered. In order to maintain and improve support and custom er serv ice to its grantees, applicants and partners, OWEB received approval from the legis lature to create this new service area.
