Lakeview shot an impressive 12 o f 14 from the free throw line, includ ing crucial shots late to seal it up in the fourth quarter. “I can't say we didn’t play well,” McKinnis said. “We just had a hard time match ing up w ith their team speed, and they took advantage of it.” Casey Clemens led Lakeview with 22 points. By Jeannie Collins If you did not attend the second annual Donkey Basketball on February 9th, you missed a fast paced, hilarious, fun filled event. Riders with no control, donkeys bucking and riders falling off, all while trying to make a basket made for a truly entertaining and comical event. The object o f the game was to score as many points as possible by making has- kets. However, these were not just ordinary made baskets. In order for the basket to count one had to shoot it from the back o f their donkey. This does not sound like a very difficult thing to do, however, it is a lot harder than one would think. Not only do you have the other team trying to steal, or swat the ball out o f your hands (while try- ing to innocently knock you off at the same time), you have to try to get your donkey near the basket so that you can shoot. As you may well now, donkeys can be stubborn, They do not neck reign, nor do they pay at- tention to leg cues. They do whatever their owners have taught them and that is through cues that come from their owners who are the referees tapping a stick and chasing the donkeys down the court. The rider has ab- solutely no control, Needless to say it was a free for all w ith riders and donkeys totally out o f con- trol. Somehow baskets were made. The HHS staff team “OLD" was outnumbered as many o f the staff' members were away for training, but they put up a good fight. The final score was Students 22 and Staff' 14. Junior High wrestlers bring home second place trophy HHS boys’ basketball season comes to end By Nathan Van Cleave The Heppner boys’ basketball team met their match Saturday when they trav eled to Lakeview to play the fighting Honkers in the first round o f state playoffs. Lakeview finished their season first in league lining them up to play Hep pner, who finished third in the Blue Mountain Confer ence. The Mustangs played a hard fought game but did not have the m om entum necessary to shut down their opponents losing the game 66-56. Although down by a considerable amqunt in the third quarter Heppner ral lied together sinking three consecutive three pointers bringing the point differ ence within five. Heppner held this difference right up until the end o f the game but was not able to narrow the margin enough to pull out a win. T he g a m e, h o w ever, was toped o ff on a positive note when senior A ndre Rauch drove past Heppner Junior High Wrestling team took home the second place trophy from the Grant Union his defending player and meet. Pictured are the junior high wrestlers with their coach, Mark Lemmon. slam dunked the ball over a H onker player leaving Lakeview silent. Even th o u g h the Heppner boys would have liked to advance further into the playoffs they played a great gam e and ended strong.
