The resid en t introduced this week is Ellis McRoberts. Born in H eppner, M cRoberts went through school here as well. He w orked for Kinzua Corporation from 1955 until he retired in 1996. He married Katie Wright in 1976 and they were together 30 years. McRoberts recently moved up to the second floor due to flo o d in g and is enjoying his new apartment. With three children, he now en jo y s nine grandchildren. Going to all the games and bowling, he says, “I’m a sports fanatic.” It has been three years now since the St. P a tric k ’s A p artm en ts became his home. Class of ’56 to hold reunion The Heppner High School Class of 1956 will be celebrating their 50lh class reu n io n th is com ing w eekend. T hey w ill be gathering at Heppner’s City Park, Saturday, July 15 at 1 p.m., for an afternoon of visiting and getting caught up on the 10 years since their last get together. Everyone is in v ited to attend this gathering and visit with “old” friends and classmates. Seven couples from throughout the Northwest and Texas have come to H ep p n er to help w ith outdoor renovations at the Heppner Nazarene Church. The group, members of the Church of the Nazarene and a group called ROAM (RVs on a Mission). are putting up new siding on the church and re p a irin g the bridge w alkw ay. Som e o f the women are also helping sort clothes that the church sends to the Ukraine. The local ch urch provides a place for the group to stay and the m aterials, w hile ROAM members supply the labor. They cam e to H eppner Friday, July 7 and will be staying through July 15. The next stop on their itinerary is Arlington. Local com m unity m embers have also been helping with the renovations. Pastors Dwayne and Kathy Jones are appreciative of the help and are looking forward to seeing the new “cream co lo red " church building. Heppner notes Preparations By Dave DeMavo, city manager being made for Celebrate Just in case you are interested, our Utility Assistance Program is a year old. The city began the program with Historic Heppner P rep aratio n s are being made for Celebrate Historic Heppner to be held July 28-30 in Heppner. While there are already events scheduled, Terry Baker, the new Cham ber director is asking for anyone w ith ideas for the weekend to continue contacting the Chamber. She would like to add more to the weekend and is looking for family-oriented events and events that prom ote H eppner. To make a suggestion, call 676-5536. A lready on the schedule is the sidewalk sale to be held all day Friday; the pie judging contest, the BBQ in the Park and the talent show, also on Friday; and the Rodeo Kick-off Stickhorse R ound-U p, d in n er and dance, held Friday evening. The museums will also be open during the weekend. The annual Dinner at the Cemetery will not be held this year, but Baker said that she is working hard to make sure it is back next year and continues to be an annual event. Again, any ideas for the weekend are strongly en co u rag ed and may be directed to Baker at 676- 5536. $ 1 (KH) seed money. It has received donations in the amount of $500. The fund has been used to help eight to nine people with their utility bills. On average, the help extended is about $ 1 (X) per approved applicant. There is an application process that screens applicants so that only those in genuine dire need receive the money. The fund is currently at about $900. Anyone interested in donating to this fund needs to contact City Hall at 111 N. Main Street. Heppner or call 676-9618. The city would also like to bring to the attention of loggers/truck drivers that Ordinance 558-06. which just passed in May 2006 stipulates that trucks driven to a residence for minor repairs or to be parked, are to be parked off-street. Please be courteous to your neighbors and abide by the ordinance (you can be cited if necessary). When a person resides in a city, he/she agrees that there is necessarily some “give and take" in respecting the rights of others and perhaps at times voluntarily not insisting on our rights for the benefit of others.
