Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, June 14,2006 - THREE Students show they are “Water Wise” Cardinal Booster Club news The Cardinal Boost er Club met Monday, June 5 at the school library. The club received a thank you note from the ten nis team for the Gatorade and water provided them for district competition. Track Coach Del LaRue expressed his appreciation for the re freshments, as well as the club providing a coach bus and extra meal money for the athletes going to state. The leftover water will be avail able for sum m er league home basketball games. The club voted not to become involved in pro moting Melaleuca products. Becky Tullis made adjustments to and complet ed the tax-exempt forms. C lub m em bers learned that 12 additional size adult small 4th of July t-shirts have been ordered. Dean Robinson re ported the Sports Hall of Fame constitution is being drafted. Copies will be made available for members to re view. The football coach es are planning to order shirts with an lone sport logo as a fundraiser for their pro gram. The Nike shirts will be available for participants in the football camp as well as Cardinal fans. Both children and adult sizes will be or dered. The club approved buying football p ractice pants for the high school team . M em bers also ap proved the purchase of hel mets and shoulder pads for the team if th ere is not enough money in the foot ball budget to cover those expenses. University of Oregon announces degree candidates meeting on Wednesday. June 14 at 1:30 p.m. Included in the agenda are the W illow Creek Valley Economic Development Group and the Heppner Power Plant. I O regon State U niversity w ill graduate what may be the largest class in its history on Sunday, June 18, when it holds its 137th annual commencement. The ceremony, which will be broadcast live over Oregon Public Broadcasting, begins at 2 p.m. in Reser Stadium. Warren Washington, an OSU alu m n u s and outgoing chairman of the prestigious National Science B oard, w ill give the commencement address. A bout 4 ,3 0 0 students will graduate from OSU in 2006 with some 4,440 degrees. Both would be records, according to B arbara B alz, the u n iv e rs ity 's reg istrar. Oregon State has attracted record enrollments over the past several years, leading to larger and larger graduating classes. L ast year, OSU graduated 4,083 students who received 4,219 degrees. OSU President Ed Ray and the academic deans will pass out diplomas to graduating students. Oregon State is one o f the few universities of its size to present actual diplomas to its g ra d u a tes d u rin g commencement.
