For further directions, call 422-7325. Everyone is invited to attend, especially children. Food and beverages will be provided, but participants are asked to bring their own pumpkins and carving tools. A dditional activities will include a hayride, roasting hot dogs around a campfire, fe llo w sh ip and sin g in g . Reports are that long-time Valby member Louis Carlson may also have a trick or two up his sleeve. A free-will offering for hurricane victims will be collected. Valby Lutheran Church is a m em ber o f the ELCA (E v an g e lic al L u th eran Church of America) and is currently being served by Pastor Ron Zschoche from Bend. Morrow Co. Sheriff’s Office drug dog poisoned; reward offered A Morrow County Sheriff’s police dog, Quinto, owned by MCSO Reserve Deputy Colleen Neubert of Irrigon, that died under suspicious circum stances, has been poisoned, M.C. Sheriff Ken M atlack has reported. Sheriff M atlack has put up a personal reward of $1,000 for the arrest and conviction of the person or perso n s re sp o n sib le for Quinto’s death. A necropsy revealed that the dog tested positive for an a n tic o ag u la n t. A ccording to M atlack, Deputy Neubert says that the only way the dog could have been p o iso n ed w as for someone to have actually placed the poison in the dog’s pen. K-9 Quinto, named Q uinto von B ayerischen Wald, was purchased from Polizei Haupt Meister Horst H ess of M ark tste ft, Germany. The dog had the title of Polizei Schutzhund level one when he began working with Officer Hess, a close friend of the Neubert fam ily. Q u into was pu rch ased by D eputy Neubert in 2001. Deputy Neubert has a second dog she is currently training and Deputy Adam Bredfield has a personally owned dog that is also being trained. Both will soon be available for duty. Sheriff M atlack adds that if any c itiz e n s w ould like to contribute to the sheriff’s efforts to enhance the canine program, they may do so by sending their contributions to the M orrow C ounty Sheriff’s K-9 program, P.O. The lone M iddle School V olleyball team ended their season on a high note, winning the Irrigon Junior High Tournament on Saturday, October 22. The C ard in als started the morning in pool play against Irrigon. Pool games were played to 20 points with a time limitation. Against Irrigon, lone played well, winning both games, 20-13 and 20-7. After a short break, lone took the court against Pilot Rock. The first game was close, with Pilot Rock pulling out a 20-18 win. However, the Cardinals came roaring back in the second game to win. 20-11. Since both team s won a gam e in the m atch, the winner was decided on most points scored. In the final game o f pool play, lone fought off Umatilla, 20-13, 20-15. Three wins put the Cardinals as the number one team from Pool A. They then had to w ait to see who would come over from the Irrigon Elem entary gym from Pool B. T heir first o p p o n en t in the cham pionship round was Heppner, the second place team from Pool B. The Cards had two close games with the Ponies, but pulled out the win, 25-20, 25-18, M oving on to the championship, the Cardinals played Riverside tough to take the match, 25-20, 25- 20 . Layla Vaughn-Clark performed the double-ring ceremony and the couple was also “traditionally handfasted” as a part of their light casual outdoor ceremony. A reception barbecue and potluck feast, “complete with merriment and laughter,” was held in the park following the ceremony. The bride wore a light blue garden-fairy dress with lace details and carried a bouquet of white and pink daisies. The bride is the daughter of Darlene and Roger Schoonover of Heppner. She is a 1992 graduate of Heppner High School and a 1994 graduate of the Pendleton College of Hair Design. She is the owner of Giselle’s Mobile Styling and is also employed part-time for Roger’s Electric in Heppner. The groom is the son of Shannon and Tom Wicklund, Heppner. He is a 1994 graduate of Heppner High School. He is employed with Heppner Heating. Following a week-long honeymoon at a cabin on the Shore of Wallowa Lake, the couple is at home in Heppner. The O regon State University Extension Service recently recognized several outstanding cooperators and friends of Extension during an aw ards p resen tatio n ceremony held on the OSU campus. “T h ese aw ards ack n o w led g e the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations throughout the state that have freely given time and re so u rce s to support E x ten sio n S ervice educational programs." said Troy Downing, Tillamook County Extension agent and public relations chair of the OSU Extension Association.
