Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, January 19,2005 - THREE Mustang JV girls roll past Rockets Mustang JV boys rally for win B> Rick Paullus over Rockets B y Rick Paullux Writers in Winter conies to HES Young writers in grades 3-6 are invited to attend a morning writing workshop at Heppner Elementary on Friday, Feb 18 The morning’s events will begin from 8 15- 8:30 a m , with registration in the entrance o f HES Writers will put their pencils away at noon While the workshop is held at HES, it is open to all students in grades 3-6 from neighboring schools Letters o f invitation have been sent to Morrow County School District schools as well as Condon, Fossil, lone. Spray, Echo, Stanfield and Arlington Writers in Winter classes will be taught by staff members of HES, with assistance from Heppner Junior and High School students. The Heppner Mustang JV boys fell behind by as many as 11 points late in the third before rallying for a 49- 46 win over the Pilot Rock Rockets on Friday, Jan 14 in Pilot Rock The Mustangs improved to 5-3 on the year and after having their game on Saturday against Culver cancelled due to weather, they will be at home on Friday, Jan 21 against Weston-McEwen and at Stanfield on Saturday, Jan 22. Team: 19 6-8 46. 3-pts: Humphreys 2. lone’s “A” team boys take Helix The lone Middle School boys’ “A” team hosted the Helix Grizzlies on Jan 8 and came away with a solid 38-26 win This was the boys’ first game after the Christmas break, but they came ready to play after being snowed out in their game the day before They quickly burst into the lead in the first quarter, 11-5. Although in the second quarter, only one point was scored for the Cardinals and Helix caught up, scoring 13 points By halftime, the Grizzles had scored 18 and the Cardinals had scored 12 At the end o f the third quarter, the Cardinals had the lead again, 30- 22. This lead was just to hard to catch up to for the Grizzles and lone finished strong, 38-26. Clay Morter lead the scoring with 21 points, Cory Peterson pitched in six. The Mustangs, 3 and 1 in the CBC and 11 and 2 overall, who had th eir gam e on Saturday against Culver postponed due to weather, will be at home on Friday, Jan 21 and at Stanfield on Saturday, Jan 22. The M ustangs jumped out to a quick lead against the R ockets as Shanna R ietm ann hit a jumper to open the game and Linsey Mitchell converted a three-point play and hit one o f tw o free throw s for a quick 6-0 lead Sarah Price converted a three-point play and Rietmann scored on a pass from Mitchell to make it 11-2 and they eventually took an 11-6 lead after one Lyndi Patton scored off a pass from Rietmann, Price hit one o f two free throw s and Terra Wilson scored off a steal to make it 16-9.
