They are one o f the seven church groups who provide volunteers for serving these noon meals, and assist with the cleanup as well. These groups each add a particular atmosphere to the occasion, and to the pleasure o f the meal and the fellowship of the hour. St. Patrick’s Senior Center appreciates everyone who gives time for this gift to the seniors o f Heppner and su rro u n d in g communities. The senior bus will load at the M ain Street entrance o f the center on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 3:15 p.m. to take passengers to the annual Hardman Oyster Feed. Interested people from Willow Creek Terrace will be picked up at 3 p.m. This announcement comes from Ed Baker, who is volunteer directo r for the c e n te r’s transportation services. After Boyer lost two yards, Kenny broke several tackles, gaining 14 yards and a first down at the 22 yard line. The Mustangs were able to run out the clock and preserve the win. The defense was led by Boyer with 47 defensive points, with Kenny adding 19 p oints and G eer, 16 points. Delveaux and Gordy W egw orth each had 14 p o in ts; C o il, 13 points; Paullus, 12 points; and Van Cleave and Quinn Peck each had 10 points. Boyer ran for 125 yards on 16 carries with Kenny gaining 45 yards on nine carries. Van Cleave ended up 4 of 8, passing for 109 yards. The Heppner Ponies opened their season with a 50-0 win over the Riverside Pirates in B oardm an on Thursday, Sept. 16. The team got touchdowns from seven different players. The Ponies will be at home on Friday, Oct. 1, against the Umatilla Vikings, beginning at 3 p.m. The Ponies got a touchdow n in the first quarter, getting the ball at their own 25-yard line after taking over on dow ns. Spencer Palmer ran for 25 yards to midfield to set up a 50-yard touchdow n pass from Dalton W ellman to Jared Huddleston. Wellman hit Palmer in the back of the end zone for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 after one. In the second quarter, it was Palmer’s turn as he returned a punt 25 yards, ran for 20 yards and scored from 25 yards out. He added the tw o-point conversion to make it 16-0 early in the second. A fumbled snap on a punt gave the Ponies the ball at the Riverside 20-yard line and then the Ponies went back to work. Chance Day made a nice move to gain 10 yards; Wacy Coil ran for six, then punched it in for the touchdown from four yards out. The kick was blocked, but the Ponies took a 22-0 lead at the half. In the third, Coil ran for 10, Palmer broke several tackles for a 35 yard gain, then took a sideline screen 20 yards to the 10 where Brent Eckman took it in for the touchdow n. Bryan Holland ran in the two-point conversion to make it 30-0. The defense forced another punt which Palmer returned 20 yards and the Fair theme contest underway I t’s that tim e o f year... the Morrow County Fair Board needs ideas for the fair theme. It will be the fair’s 92nd year in 2005. The Board wants a theme that will reflect both ends o f the county and will also make it easy for the superintendents to decorate during fair. The Ponies’ defense again held, forcing another punt, which Chris Wellington took 55 y ard s for a touchdown. The kick failed, but the Ponies led 44-0. The P irates were driving late in the fourth when Jordan Hatfield picked off a pass and ran back for an 80 yard touchdown. It was called back on a penalty and placed at the 40-yard line. On the last play of the game, Drew Johnson took the hand-off, broke outside and ran untouched to the end zone to make the final, 50- 0. The defense was led by Matt Holland, Palmer, Bryan Holland and Eddie Waddell with help from the rest of the team, as everyone contributed to the win.
