The Heppner Ponies
opened their season with a
50-0 win over the Riverside

team got touchdowns from
seven different players. The
Ponies will be at home on
Friday, Oct. 1, against the
Umatilla Vikings, beginning
at 3 p.m.
The Ponies got a
touchdow n in the first
quarter, getting the ball at
their own 25-yard line after
taking over on dow ns.
Spencer Palmer ran for 25
yards to midfield to set up a
50-yard touchdow n pass
from Dalton W ellman to
Jared Huddleston. Wellman
hit Palmer in the back of the
end zone for the two-point
conversion to make it 8-0
after one.
In the
second
quarter, it was Palmer’s turn
as he returned a punt 25
yards, ran for 20 yards and
scored from 25 yards out. He
added
the
tw o-point
conversion to make it 16-0
early in the second.
A fumbled snap on a
punt gave the Ponies the ball
at the Riverside 20-yard line
and then the Ponies went
back to work. Chance Day
made a nice move to gain 10
yards; Wacy Coil ran for six,
then punched it in for the
touchdown from four yards
out. The kick was blocked,
but the Ponies took a 22-0
lead at the half.
In the third, Coil ran
for 10, Palmer broke several
tackles for a 35 yard gain,
then took a sideline screen
20 yards to the 10 where
Brent Eckman took it in for
the touchdow n. Bryan
Holland ran in the two-point
conversion to make it 30-0.

returned 20 yards and the

the hand-off, broke outside
and ran untouched to the end
