The c lu b ’s first m eeting was Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the 4-H extension office. It was a bu sin ess meeting and club members d iscu ssed plan s for the upcoming year. For questions or more inform ation, contact club leader Patty McNary at 422- 7343. Garden Club to meet The Heppner Garden Club will meet on Monday, March 1 at 7 p.m. at St. Pat’s Senior Center. Hosts for the evening are Joanne B urleson and Peggy Connor. The program will feature Kay Proctor, a member of the Heppner Master Gardeners. Proctor will be talking on planting seeds and how to take care of the plants. St. Patrick’s Parish youth welcome home soldier Eric Schonbachler is home alter being in Iraq for more than elev en m onths. He has appreciated all of the support he has received from his community here in Heppner. The youth of St. Patrick Parish have been supporters o f all of the soldiers whose families have connections here in Heppner. The little ones have drawn pictures, the bigger ones have written letters, and e v ery o n e has co lle cte d goodies and said many, many prayers for our soldiers across the sea. Schonbachler was surprised when he came home to see yellow ribbons on his tree, balloons on his porch and a welcome home sign in his front yard. He was also surprised when he came to church on Sunday and found another banner welcoming him home. He will go back to North C arolina and train scouting platoons. He asks that we “Keep the soldiers I left behind in your thoughts and Eric Schonbachler with poster from children and photo pge 1 prayers.” Sheriff's Report The M orrow County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) re ports handling the following business: -MCSO, Heppner ambulance received a report from a caller in Heppner of a young male stumbling around, who was incoherent and out o f control. The subject had ingested jimson weed. The subject was transported to Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Heppner then air-flighted to St. Charles Hospital. A second su b ject was treated and released. -MCSO received a req u est from a c aller in Boardman for extra patrols on Tom’s Camp Road, as there are a lot of speeders especially after school. -MCSO received a rep o rt from a c a lle r in Boardman that her grandson has received two threatening le tte rs in his lo ck er at Columbia Middle School in Irrigon. He has also received hang-up phone calls. -MCSO received a report o f a parking complaint in the area around Columbia Middle School. -MCSO received a report from a caller in lone of a bird dog found on Rhea Creek Road. -MCSO received a report from Wasco County that Challis Craig Noble, 24, was arrested on a Morrow County Circuit Court warrant for DUIl/Driving while License Suspended Misdemeanor. He was lodged at NORCOR with local charges also. -M C SO deputy arrested Charles DeLarm, 25, on a Heppner Circuit Court warrant for DUII. -M C SO , Irrigon Public W orks received a report from a caller in Irrigon o f hay bales blocking a section of Idaho Street. -M C SO , O regon State Police, Boardman Police Dept, received a report o f a p o ssib le D U II on 1-84 westbound. Units were unable to locate the vehicle. -M C SO , O regon State Police, Boardman Police Dept, received a report from a caller in Boardman ofhearing a door slam in his apartment; possibly someone was inside. The caller left through the back and was waiting in the front. An officer was unable to locate anyone. O c t. 10: M CSO , B oardm an Police D ept., B oardm an am b u lan ce receiv ed a req u est for assistance from a caller in Boardman for a 71 -year-old female who had fallen and couldn’t get up. No transport was made. -M CSO , U m atilla Police Dept, received a report from a caller in Irrigon that a male subject was outside her door threatening her. The caller called back and said the male subject left and no contact was needed. -MCSO received a report from a caller in Irrigon ofhay bales blocking a section of Idaho Street. -MCSO, Boardman F ire D ept., B oardm an ambulance received a report of a fire on the roof at Oregon P o tato . E v ery o n e w as evacuated. -MCSO received a request for assistance from a c a lle r at the B oardm an eastb o u n d rest area; he requested a ride to Boardman, as his vehicle was disabled 11 miles west of Boardman. -MCSO, Boardman P olice D ept, receiv ed a req u est from a c aller in Boardman that an unwanted male subject be removed from a residence. It was a verbal disturbance. The subject left for the night. -MCSO received a report from a caller in Irrigon that the neighbor’s dog was at large again and killed his cat. Tiea Hussey, 23, was cited for Maintaining a Dog as a Public Nuisance. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a report from Kegler’s Sentry Market in Boardman o f a shoplifter w ho took a carto n o f cigarettes. The subject fled the scene while the caller was on the phone. He dropped a blue sweatshirt and three packages ofSudafed. -MCSO received a request for a deputy contact from a c aller in Irrigon regarding the n e ig h b o r’s multiple dogs. -MCSO received a report from the Hermiston Police Dept, that Leanne Louise A lvarez, 33, was arrested on a warrant for Contempt of Court. -MCSO received a report of a wallet found in the Heppner City Park. -MCSO received a report from a caller that they broke dow n on 1-84 at P atterso n Ferry. A tow company was contacted. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a hang up 911 call from a location in B oardm an. The call was unfounded. -MCSO received a report from a caller that a hide see story barrel near his house had been overturned. The Elks Lodge would correct the problem. -MCSO received a rep o rt from a c a lle r in Lexington that a male subject has been making unwanted contact with the caller’s wife. -MCSO received a report of a disabled vehicle on 1-84 with a female and child in the vehicle. -M C SO deputy arrested Frank Battaglia on Morrow County Justice Court warrants for Failure to Appear/ Criminal M ischief II and Contempt o f Court. He was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail. -MCSO received a report from a caller in Irrigon o f several subjects racing a m o to rcy cle acro ss the highway in Irrigon. -MCSO received a report from a caller at the Heppner Chevron that she had a hole in her gas tank and were en route to meet her parents. -MCSO, Boardman Police Dept, received a report from a caller in Boardman of a non-injury motor vehicle accident. -MCSO received a report from the Eugene Police Dept, that Janice Thornton, 37, was arrested on a Morrow County Circuit Court warrant for Parole Violation/Criminal N o n -S u p p o rt. She was lodged at the Lane County Jail. -MCSO received a request for a deputy contact from a caller in Heppner; his dog may have been poisoned. Irrigon man indicted on attempted murder charges R obert M artin Leinweber, 37, of Irrigon, was indicted by a Morrow County Grand Jury on Feb. 20 on charges of Attempted Murder, Assault in the First Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. The charges stem from a stabbing incident that occurred Feb. 13,2004 in Irrigon. The victim has been released from Good Shepherd M edical Center.
