dog people to get together and
start thinking about dogs. The
c lu b ’s first m eeting was
Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the 4-H
extension office.
It was a bu sin ess
meeting and club members
d iscu ssed plan s for the
upcoming year.

Garden Club to
meet
The Heppner Garden Club
will meet on Monday, March
1 at 7 p.m. at St. Pat’s Senior
Center. Hosts for the evening
are Joanne B urleson and
Peggy Connor. The program
will feature Kay Proctor, a
member of the Heppner Master
Gardeners. Proctor will be
talking on planting seeds and
how to take care of the plants.
St. Patrick’s Parish youth welcome home soldier
Eric Schonbachler is home
alter being in Iraq for more than
elev en m onths. He has
appreciated all of the support
he has received from his
community here in Heppner.
The youth of St. Patrick Parish
have been supporters o f all of
the soldiers whose families
have connections here in
Heppner. The little ones have
drawn pictures, the bigger
ones have written letters, and
e v ery o n e has co lle cte d
goodies and said many, many
prayers for our soldiers across
the sea.
Schonbachler was
surprised when he came home
to see yellow ribbons on his
tree, balloons on his porch and
a welcome home sign in his
front yard. He was also
surprised when he came to
church on Sunday and found
another banner welcoming him
home.
He will go back to
North C arolina and train
scouting platoons. He asks that
we “Keep the soldiers I left

Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) re
ports handling the following

Heppner
ambulance received a report
from a caller in Heppner of a
young male stumbling around,
who was incoherent and out
o f control. The subject had
ingested jimson weed. The
subject was transported to
Pioneer Memorial Hospital in
Heppner then air-flighted to
St. Charles Hospital. A second
su b ject was treated and
released.
-MCSO received a
req u est from a c aller in
Boardman for extra patrols on
Tom’s Camp Road, as there
are a lot of speeders especially
after school.
-MCSO received a
rep o rt from a c a lle r in
Boardman that her grandson
has received two threatening
le tte rs in his lo ck er at
Columbia Middle School in
Irrigon. He has also received
hang-up phone calls.
-MCSO received a
report o f a parking complaint
in the area around Columbia
Middle School.

report from a caller in lone of
a bird dog found on Rhea
Creek Road.

report from Wasco County
that Challis Craig Noble, 24,
was arrested on a Morrow
County Circuit Court warrant
for DUIl/Driving while License
Suspended Misdemeanor. He
was lodged at NORCOR with
local charges also.

Nuisance.

in Boardman o f a shoplifter

cigarettes. The subject fled the
scene while the caller was on
the phone. He dropped a blue
sweatshirt and three packages

Police Dept, that Leanne

arrested on a warrant for

company was contacted.

dog may have been poisoned.
Irrigon man
indicted on
attempted
murder charges

Leinweber, 37, of Irrigon, was
indicted by a Morrow County
Grand Jury on Feb. 20 on
charges of Attempted Murder,
Assault in the First Degree and
Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The charges stem from a
stabbing incident that occurred
Feb. 13,2004 in Irrigon. The
victim has been released from
Good Shepherd M edical
Center.
Leinweber is being
held at the Umatilla County
Jail on $ 120,000 bail. He was
scheduled to be arraigned on
Feb. 23.
