Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon St. Patrick’s Senior Center news C hristian Life C enter church m em bers will be the volunteers for St. P atrick’s m eal on W ednesday, Oct. 1. The menu has not been published at this writing. Rides are available for those w ho receive foot care and need transportation to the H om e H ealth office. A foot clinic is held the first Wednesday o f every month. Appointments must be made with the clinic personnel and then the name and time given to the Center office staff for a driver to be scheduled. Each appointment for foot care can take up to an hour and the cost is $20. The transportation is a service o f the Senior Center. The persons needing rides need to call one day ahead o f time for drivers to be scheduled. W ednesday, Oct. 1 is the date o f the next clinic. Plans are progressing for an informational meeting to discuss legal questions senior citizens ask most frequently, as well as som e they should ask for their ow n protection and aw areness o f changes or status in particular circum stances. M any questions concern long term health care, pow er o f attorney and directives to physicians. We encourage anyone who has a specific question, to write it out and give it to a St. P atrick ’s B oard m em ber or leave it at the office. Such inform ation will be an aid to preparation for the m eeting. M ore specific inform ation will appear soon. The Senior Center office is now closed on Wednesday afternoons, from 1-4 p.m . A survey o f the daily activity determ ined that there w ere few er inquiries on that day and at that time. The Senior Board will attend the regular m eeting o f the H eppner H ousing A uthority on M onday, Sept. 29, in the lounge o f the Senior Center. The purpose o f the joint meeting is to review the agreem ent m ade betw een the tw o entities at the tim e the C enter becam e operative. United W ay launches annual cam paign T he U nited W ay o f U m a tilla a n d M o rro w Counties has begun its annual cam paign to raise funds for non-profit health and social service agencies in the tw o- county area. Food Handler’s Class to be offered A F ood H a n d le r’s Class will be offered by Blue Mountain Community College and the State Health Division on W ednesday, Oct. 1, from 6 :3 0 - 9 :3 0 p .m ., a t th e H e p p n e r H ig h S c h o o l cafeteria. A F ood H a n d le r’s card is required by the State o f O regon for all em ployees w ho handle or prepare food in food service facilities in O r e g o n . T h is in c lu d e s dishwashers, waiters, staff and businesspersons. Additionally, the card is also now required o f all day care w orkers. The c o st o f th e c la ss is a $10 licensing fee payable to the State Health Department after successful com pletion o f the written test. R egistration w ill be done at the class. Sept 17 accident at Divide Wells causes death and arrest A t 5 :5 9 p .m ., on W ednesday, S ep t. 17, the U m atilla C o u n ty S h e riff’s O ffice notified the M orrow County Sheriff’s Office o f an injury m otor vehicle accident located on forest service road 5327 near D ivide W ells in S o u th e a s te r n M o rro w County. U p o n a r r iv a l o f sh e riff’s deputies and EM S personnel it w as determ ined th a t o n e o c c u p a n t o f th e vehicle was pinned under the vehicle and w as deceased at the scene. A second person in the vehicle had sustained minor in ju r ie s . T h e a c c id e n t investigation is continuing with the assistance o f the O regon State Police and US Forest Service Law E nforcem ent. T he d riv er o f the v ehicle, Steven A llen Sem one, DO B o f 11/20/68, E agle C reek, O R , w a s t r a n s p o r te d b y a m b u la n c e to P io n e e r M e m o ria l H o s p ita l in Heppner. A fter being treated and released by the hospital Steven Sem one w as arrested b y th e M o rr o w C o u n ty S heriff’s O ffice and charged w ith D r iv in g U n d e r th e Influence o f Intoxicants and C r im in a lly N e g lig e n t H om icide. Steven Sem one w as lodged at the U m atilla C o u n ty J a il on a b a il o f $13,500.
