The Chronicles Committee o f Morrow County Historical Society is looking for incidents, stories or pictures o f the Heppner Flood o f 1903. Cardinal Booster Club discusses renovations & events T h e lo n e C a r d in a l Booster Club m et Feb. 3, at the high school, w ith 19 m em bers present. Del LaRue had several bids from Harold Rietm ann for . the new trophy case. The bids will have to be re-w orked due to the added size o f the case. The * bid for the eight-foot case was $910, with extra expense for the shelves. Dean Robinson reported the bid for relocating the drinking fountain, including fittings and la b o r, w a s $ 6 8 7 .9 3 . He suggested the m iddle school student body might help pay the expenses. The work will be done over spring break. Rietmann also suggested putting an Oregonian Gold Cup sign on the edge o f town with the state championship signs. He will submit a sketch o f that plan. The club is still waiting to hear from the IRS regarding our non-profit confirmation. L aR ue has ask ed M C G G a n d W a l-M a rt fo r support for our track project. The topcoat should be placed on the track practice area in a week. T h e s h o p c la s s is w o rk in g to re p la c e th e o ld community board on Main Street. L y n n D e e R a m o s is taking a grant w riting class and will be available to help the club apply for grants in the fiiture. She is p a rt o f th e F o u n d a tio n Committee that will be filling out grant applications. She will also take further classes this spring. M em bers agreed to help with expenses for those classes. D u e to a c h a n g e in OSAA rules, Heppner teams will no longer be involved in the S o u th M o rro w C o u n ty Tournament. lone will continue to sponsor that tournament under a new name. “Cardinal Invitational'’ was suggested. The club is sponsoring a Wildhorse Casino trip this spring. A bus will be provided by the c a s in o fo r 2 0 p e o p le , an d travelers w ill receive a lunch voucher. C ost o f the trip is $ 15 each. A date for the trip will be discussed at the March meeting. Som e p o sitiv e things happening at lone Schools were reco g n ized . E lem en tary and middle school parents provided concessions at the middle school basketball gam e and held a cake raffle at the high school game. The preschool is sponsoring a raffle at each game, with items donated by local businesses. Janet Stefani has been aw arding prizes to the best dressed boy and girl at all basketball games. The club hopes to get the c o m m u n ity b an d sta rte d up again. Virgil M organ will ask b a n d m e m b e rs i f th e y a re interested. T h ere w as som e discussion about keeping crowd comments positive at ball games. C a m e ro n K re b s , A ndrew R ietm ann and C ayle Krebs asked for club support for the Eight-M an All Star gam e at Linfield College on June 15. T he C o lu m b ia R iv e r Heritage Trail is a 12-mile non- m o to rized re c re atio n a l trail, roughly paralleling the Columbia River, and is ideal for hiking, bicycling, jo g g in g and nature study. It offers an opportunity to see w hat Lew is and C lark saw, walk where Sacagawea walked, o r s p e n d q u ie t m o m e n ts contemplating unique Columbia B a sin flo ra a n d fau n a . They then read a book at their own level. A fter reading the book they take a test on their com prehension o f the book. They receive points that go toward their individual reading goals.
