The M ustangs finish the season on the road at Riverside on M onday, Feb. 10 and at W eston-M cEwen on Thursday, Feb. 13. On Tuesday, Jan. 28 the M ustangs hung on to beat the \ ¡siting Condon Blue Devils, 40- 37, then outscored the visiting R iv e rs id e P ira te s 5 4 -3 2 on Thursday, Jan. 30. The M ustangs got five points from Kyle Carlson in the first quarter as they were tied with the Blue Dev ils at 8-8 after one and got five points from Matthew VanCleave and four from Dan Basile in the second to take a 22- 15 halftime lead. The Mustangs increased their led to 33-20 after three getting five points, including a 3- pointer, from Kory Paullus and then hung on in the fourth as the Blue Devils cut the lead to three. Paullus and VanCleave each scored eight points to lead the M ustangs with Carlson and Rory K ilkenny each scoring seven points. A gainst the Pirates, the M ustangs got o ff to a fast start taking a 19-13 lead after one getting seven points each from P au llu s and V anC leave and increased it to 35-19 at the h alf getting four points each from Kilkenny and Robert McElligott and a 3-pointer from Basile in the second quarter. Mustang JV girls split over weekend By Rick Paullus The H eppner M ustang JV g irls c am e b a c k from a disappointing loss to the Pilot Rock Rockets 35-33 on Friday, Jan. 31 in Pilot Rock to easily beat the visiting Culver Bulldogs 41 -18 on Saturday, Feb. 1. The Mustangs, now 10-6 on the year, will be at hom e on Friday, Feb. 7 a g a in st W esto n -M cE w en , before traveling to Stanfield on Saturday, Feb. 8. A t P ilo t R o c k th e M ustangs trailed 6-4 after one and 15-12 at the half, but got four points from Tiffany Piper in the third quarter to take a 24-22 lead after three. They couldn’t hang on to the lead though and lost by two. Blair Keithley had eight points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists, to lead the M u stan g s. P ip e r s c o re d six p o in ts a n d g r a b b e d fo u r rebounds. Linsey Mitchell had six points and tw o steals and Katie Britt hit six o f seven free throws and had two steals. The Mustangs ran out to a 15-8 lead after one at Pilot Rock getting eight points from K yler Lovgren, four points from Eric Torres and a 3-pointer from Cody Walton. They lead 28-21 at the hal f as Aaron G riffith had seven p o in ts and Lovgren added four more in the second quarter. Brian Haguewood had six points in the third as the Mustangs led 38-29 after three and Lovgren had eight points and Zach Skaggs six as they held on in the fourth to get the win Lovgren led the Mustangs with 22 points, with Griffith adding seven and Haguewood and Skaggs each scoring six points. The Mustangs led on 10-6 after on against the Bulldogs getting five points from Josh Gutierrez and four from Jode Coil, but increased it to 30-12 at the half getting 11 second- quarter points from Gus Torres.
