The M ustangs, 4-0 in the C B C and 6-1 overall, clinched a play-off sp o t w ith th e w in o v e r the B u lld o g s c o m b in e d w ith S herm an C o u n ty ’s w in over W e s to n -M c E w e n . The M ustangs will host the Huskies on Friday, O ct. 25 w ith the winner taking over first place in the CBC. It w ill also be the last regular season home game for the seniors. The M ustangs took the opening kick-off and caught the Bulldogs offguard by throwing the ball. After a Bulldog punt, the Mustangs opened it up again with Britt hitting Tyler Boyer for seven yards. Coil for 11 yards, Adam s for 18 m ore and Justin Botefuhr for 35 yards inside the five-yard line. A fter a couple short runs Donald Adams punched it in from one yard out and Lovgren’s kick m ade it 14-0 after one quarter. An unsuccessful onside kick gave the Bulldogs good field position but C oil cam e up with an interception o ff a deflected pass and returned it 28 yards inside Bulldog territory. Brad Adams ran for eight yards then five and Britt hit Coil for 25 yards to the nine-yard line. That set up a six-yard touchdown ru n by B ritt th a t g a v e th e M ustangs a 20-0 halftime lead. Britt hit nine o f 15 passes for 170 yards in the first half. VVjjh the Bulldogs driv ing on their first possession o f the second half, Brian Smith sacked the quarterback causing a fumble th a t B ria n H aguew ood recovered at the M ustangs 34- yard line. Then it was tim e to let A dam s take over running for 16 yards, five yards, 10 yards, and then 29 yards to the one w here Britt took it in for the touchdown. The two-point conversion failed b u t th e M u s ta n g s led 2 6 -0 midway through the third quarter. O n the B ulldogs next possession, a bad snap on the punt allowed Connor Kilkenny to tackle the punter for an 18-yard loss back to their own twenty. Adam s then carried four times, the last one from two yards out, taking it to the end zone. Mustang JVs fall short at Weston-McEwen By Rick Paullus A fourth quarter rally fell short for the H eppner M ustang JV football team at W eston- M cEw en as they lost 22-14 to end the year w ith a 3-3 record. A fter a scoreless first quarter, Cody Walton broke free on the first play o f the second quarter for a 79-yard touchdown run. Matt Kenny ran in the two- point conversion to give the M ustangs an 8-0 lead. T he T ig ersco ts cam e back to score m idw ay through th e s e c o n d q u a rte r but th e M u s ta n g s s to p p e d th e conversion try to keep an 8-6 lead at halftime. Weston-McEwen scored tw o touchdow ns in the third quarter to take a 19-8 lead. H ow ever, the M ustangs scored on the first play o f the fourth quarter on a 70-yard pass and run from Matthew VanCleave to Aaron Griffith. The conversion pass failed and the M ustangs trailed 19-14. A 30-yard field goal by the Tigerscots extended their lead to 22-14 m idw ay through the fourth quarter but the M ustangs put together a driv e getting a 25- yard pass from V anCleave to Aaron Delveaux, Brandon Seitz m ade a diving catch o f a pass from Griffith for a 35-yard gain and a 15-yard run by W alton to get inside the five-yard line. D onald A dam s picked up three yards and Brad Adam s ran three times for 13 yards then broke free for a 41 -yard touchdow n. The kick was blocked but the M ustangs held a 38-0 lead with 7:00 left in the game. T h e B u lld o g s p u t together their best drive, helped by a couple o f penalties, but the Mustangs defense held on downs at the five-yard line. Britt broke free for a 57-yard gain to end the game. The defense played well all day holding the Bulldogs to 113 yards rushing and 49 yards passing with Kilkenny leading the way with 25 defensive points and several tackles for losses. Delveaux took a pass in the flat from VanCleave and raced dow n the sideline for a 40-yard gain to the 20-yard line with less th a n six s e c o n d s left.
