The project was completed mainly with volunteer labor and included a donation from Nike. Community members took out a private loan to get the project started. "It's been a real exciting project," said Baker. "I can't say enough about our volunteers." Local students attend music camp Learning how to make and adjust oboe and bassoon reeds and learning various playing techniques were the focus of the Double Reed Camp held June 10-13 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. Dwayne Carroll honored for 17 years on school board The Morrow County Historical Society Board met June 23 at the home of Mildred and Harold Baker in Boardman for their quarterly meeting, with Don Eppenbach presiding. Discussion was held on the signage for the old one-room schoolhouses that the group hopes to place at the sites o f each one. Anyone knowing o f the dates of building and closing of any of these schools should contact Ruth McCabe, Fran Barnett or Mildred Baker. The Bakers offered to make the signs. They will make a prototype and present it to the board. Betty Carlson, who is on the Museum Board, was present. She asked if anyone had ideas how the two groups could cooperate so that more people would be involved in the operation of these historical groups to save things o f value to this project. One suggestion was to include a couple o f members of the Historical Society on the Museum Board. Any decisions on this were tabled until a later date. Don Eppenbach reported on the progress in planning the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 2006. He has a contact that might show slides of the Columbia River and its history in relation to the expedition at the annual meeting o f the Morrow County Historical Society on October 7 at the Lexington Grange Hall. In other business the group voted to donate money to put a water fountain in the Boardman Senior Citizen building that is being built. Dedication of the Groshen's Spring located across from the Morrow County Fairgrounds has been set for August 16 at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Fran Barnett announced that OPB will be showing half-hour segments on towns in Oregon on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. during this summer. Heppner will be shown on July 21. Everyone was reminded of the dedication of the mural at the Farm Machinery Museum that was held on Tuesday, June 26. Field Day held at Wilkinson Arena tiíísíl Riverside High track dedicated Leslie Bennett of Connell, WA, exhibits her summer yearling calf during the Northwest Junior Hereford Field Day held June 24-26 at the Wilkinson Arena at the Morrow County Fairgrounds in Heppner.
