Fair & Rodeo court guests of Chamber The Morrow County Fair and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo Court were lunch guests Tuesday of the Heppner Chamber of Commerce. Queen Tracy Rankin (left) and her court: Princesses Salli McElligott (center) and Rachel Faber (right) invited everyone to the Fair and Rodeo August 16- 20 . Queen Tracy talked about some of the court's many travels and appearances this year, and said that so far they have logged 7,000 miles in travel time. "We are ambassadors not only for the Fair and Rodeo but also for the county,” she said. Main St. Heppner m 2SC Celebrate Heppner a community affair "Celebrate Heppner," an event which features a sidewalk sale and community events sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Merchants Committee, will be held this Friday, July 28, beginning at 9 a.m. A sidewalk sale will get underway at 9 p.m. and is planned throughout the day until 5 p.m. Also planned all day are a CSEPP and Red Cross display. Chalk drawing, sponsored by the Bank of Easter Oregon for children through age 12, will be available from 9-11 a.m. in front of Murray Drugs. Basketball hoops, sponsored by Heppner Day Care, will be on Willow Street beginning at 2 p.m. Prizes are by Murray Drugs. A coin scramble sponsored by Heppner Day Care with two age groups, 2-4 and 5-7, will also be held on Willow Street beginning at 2:30 p.m. Activities get underway on the shamrock at the intersection of Main and Willow Streets at 3 p.m. with tricycle races sponsored by Heppner Day Care. Children planning to participate should bring their own tricycles. Prizes are by Murray Drugs. U-turns will be allowed while events are on the shamrock. A yo-yo contest for all ages, sponsored by the Heppner Chamber of Commerce, will be held in the Shamrock beginning at 3:30 p.m. Those planning to compete should bring their own yo-yo (available for sale at Heppner Hardware and Murray's). After a short practice session, the contest will begin. Contestants in four categories (through age 10, 11-17, 18-30 and o'ver 30) will be eliminated from the contest when the yo-yo is "no longer yo-yo-ing." Winners in each category (best in each division and most creative performance) will compete for the grand champion. The music will begin at 4 p.m. with the musical group, "The Living Stones"-Julie Howard, Sam Van Doom, Karen Zeiler and more performing from 4-5 p.m. It's hootenanny time from 5- 5:45 p.m. with Rick and Cecelia Drake. At 5:45 p.m. a raffle drawing for items on display in Gardner's window will be held. At 6 p.m. organizers suggest dinner at a restaurant of choice.
