Chamber Manager Town and Country, board nominees, Christmas decora tion refurbishment, Thanksgiv ing preparation in the midst of Christmas openings, St. Pat rick's planning, and, most im portant, time for family. "Walk in balance," said the keynote speaker at the Rural Futures Form, and, indeed, everyone needs to do just that as we give thanks for our many blessings and prepare for the holiday season. Heppner Chamber invites one and all to participate in the creation of the Hometown Holiday Tree between the Shoe Box and post office. Adults, students, organizations, chur ches, classes-everyone is en couraged to create a durable, weatherproof, four to six inch ornament with hanger attached to hang on the downtown tree this year. Identification may be included on the decoration, i.e. "class of '62, name, greeting". Ornaments may be snowmen, photos, wooden, tin, stars, snowflakes, etc., as long as they depict goodwill. It is hoped these can be used every year for many years to come and the event will be come an annual community happening. Musicians are in vited to participate. The community event will take place on Friday, Dec. 1, between 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the tree, or ornaments may be left at the Chamber office by Thurs day, Nov. 30. Visit Heppner businesses on Saturday, Nov. 18, during the season opening to get in the ornament spirit. Next week at Chamber, citizens from Pilot Rock involv ed in the new youth/parent program will be present to answer questions and discuss its success. He is known for leading workshops and speaking, and has been well- received in Morrow County at previous speaking engage ments, said the Reverend A1 Miller. Everyone is invited to attend. A potluck will follow the worship service. Those attend ing may bring a dish to share with others or just come along for the meal. The annual "Community Thanksgiving Dinner" will be held Nov. 23, beginning at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Cardinals avenge loss By Kara Miller lone, bent on avenging their earlier loss to Heppner, beat the Fillies on the Cardinal's home court, Monday, Oct. 23. Both factions were determin ed to win and gave the crowd of supporters an evening worth the price of admission, as the teams took the match to three games, 15-11, 5-15 and 16-14. Nine Cardinals saw action in the contest and took the victory by two points in the finale. The match was exciting to watch, with great saves and long volleys. Both tc«ms had serv ing problems, going through periods of several rotations before scoring. The Cardinals' Marie Tworek went eight for eight at the line; Stephanie Haguewood, four for eight; Melissa McElligott, four for nine, and Kara Miller scored 12 service points. Jenny Sullivan had 18 assists and Miller, 12. Several Cardinals played well at the net-McElligott had four spikes, one block and three stuffs; Suzy Heidemann, five spikes, one kill, two blocks and four stuffs; Laree Anderson, four spikes and one stuff; Miller, four spikes, two blocks and three stuffs, and Hague- wood, three spikes and one block. Both teams played hard and provided the fans with an evening of good volleyball ac tion and sportsmanship. St, Patrick's Senior Center _____ Bulletin Board_____ There were 88 people present for the senior dinner Nov. 8, including two guest from Weston. Two meals were home delivered. Marguerite Messenger won the meal ticket and Margret Dubuque the bingo ticket. Members of the Baptist Church of Lex ington served. Hearing aid assistance was given and blood pressures taken before the meal. The Senior Center board meeting was postpon ed. Mary Jean and Ernie McCabe decorated the dining room for Thanksgiving; they did a beautiful job. The menu for the senior meal Nov. 22 will be: lamb chop, chicken wings, mashed potatoes and gravy, pea salad, rolls, fruit and cookies. Members of the Episcopal Church will serve. One table of pinochle was played Friday afternoon. Ten seniors watched the movie, "G ord y", Sunday evening. Lytle, a 1995 graduate of lone High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Train ing Command, Great Lakes, IL. During the eight-week pro gram, Lytle completed a varie ty of training which included classroom study, practical hands-on instruction and an emphasis on physical fitness. In particular, Lytle learned naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and sur vival and a variety of safety skills required for working around ships and aircraft. Lytle and other recruits also received instruction on the Navy's core values: honor, courage and commitmeyt and what the words mean in guid ing personal and professional conduct, said a naval news release. lone defeated by W asco Co. Nine Cardinals saw action in two games that ended 5-15 and 13-15. Nikki Sullivan was moved up to varsity from JV to replace Suzy Heidemann, who was sidelined by an emergency ap pendectomy early Friday mor ning. Net play saw Sullivan with two spikes, three blocks and two stuffs; Laree Ander son, five spikes, one kill, one block; Melissa McElligott, six spikes, six kills, four blocks, two stuffs; Kara Miller, nine assists and three spikes, and Stephanie Haguewood, three spikes, one kill and two blocks.
