Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, October 11, 1995 lone student speaks to Topic Club Ericka Kendrick, the daughter of Jerry and Susan Kendrick, appeared at a recent meeting of the lone Topic Club held at the lone Fire Hall. Kendrick was an American Field Service student in Venezuela this last year, and spent her school year with a family in Canaima. She was one of 16 students from the United States; a total of 11 countries were involved in the program. Kendrick told the group that Venezuela is a federal republic and that there are many types of terrain, from beaches to jungles. Chinese and Italian in fluence is seen in the culture because of the many emigrants to the country. She came back with a good knowledge of the people and learned to speak Spanish quite fluently while there. Susan Kendrick prepared Venezuelan delicacies, a meat pie and cheese rollup for the women to taste. Rose Baker, Ericka's grandmother, and Eunice McElligott were hos tesses. Special guests for the day were June Crowell, Betty Gray and Boris Guerrero, a native of Venezuela.
