speaks to
Topic Club
Ericka
Kendrick,
the
daughter of Jerry and Susan
Kendrick, appeared at a recent
meeting of the lone Topic Club
held at the lone Fire Hall.
Kendrick was an American
Field Service student in
Venezuela this last year, and
spent her school year with a
family in Canaima. She was
one of 16 students from the
United States; a total of 11
countries were involved in the
program.
Kendrick told the group that
Venezuela is a federal republic
and that there are many types
of terrain, from beaches to
jungles. Chinese and Italian in
fluence is seen in the culture
because of the many emigrants
to the country. She came back
with a good knowledge of the
people and learned to speak
Spanish quite fluently while
there.
Susan Kendrick prepared
Venezuelan delicacies, a meat
pie and cheese rollup for the
women to taste. Rose Baker,
Ericka's grandmother, and
Eunice McElligott were hos
tesses. Special guests for the
day were June Crowell, Betty
Gray and Boris Guerrero, a
native of Venezuela.
