Following are results from that meet: Darrin Ployhar-seventh 300m hurdles, fourth medley relay; Mitch Matthews-eighth 300m hurdles, seventh 1500, fourth medley relay; Lief Neese-fifth 100m hurdles, sixth long jump, fourth medley relay; Cody Bellamy-third 1500m, second 88m, eighth softball, fourth medley relay; Matt Jepsen-first shot put, first 100m hurdles, se cond high jump, second 200m; Mike Schonbachler-fouth soft- ball, third 100m hurdles, se cond discus, seventh 100m; Stanley Cutsforth-fifth softball, sixth discus, fourth medley relay-Mike Haugen; Levi Geer- first 400m champion 58.03 (record is 57.82), first 800m, third softball, fifth shot put. Students scoring points at early meets were Shane Reeb, Heidi Turrell, Tracy Rankin and Matt Van Liew. All Junior High team members placed at least once during the season. Seventh grade: Desi Schm eltzer- champion high jumper, second 100m hurdles, sixth 200m; Leah D enton-third high jum p, seventh long jump, second 200m; Abby Kahl-first 400m NSR 1:05.75, first 800m NSR 2:42,20, eighth discus, second medley relay; Casey Ingraham- seventh high jump, second long jump, second softball, third 200m; Allison Sykes- seventh 400m, fourth 4x100 relay; Ashley Ropp-fourth 4x100 relay, second medley relay; Laurie Michael-fourth 4x100 relay, second medley relay; Kristen Marshall-fourth 4x100 relay; Kim Pointer- second medley relay; Jill “ What is the very first thing to do when I take my exhibit to the fairgrounds?" “ What is the difference between 4-H exhibits and 4-H contests?" “ Where can I learn to move across the stage so I won't be scared dur ing “ My Favorite Outfit" con test?" The answers to these questions and many more will be explained on Saturday, June 17, at the Home Economics and Expressive Arts Pre-Fair at the Morrow County Fairgrounds. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with classes schduled from 9 a.m. to noon. This free, non-competitive event is the place to learn how to understand the fair premium book, fair registration forms, how to be comfortable during interview judging, practice for fair contests and more. All 4-H members are welcome to at tend this event. It is most helpful to newer members, said Carol Michael-Bennett, Mor row County Extension agent. Parents, relatives and leaders are encouraged to attend with members. Adults will tour fair facilities and have a chance to learn tips from county fair “ veterans". Worship will be a service of the word, and the congregation will pick hymns. Worship service and Sunday school at Valby, on the Ione- Gooseberry road, is at 9 a.m. Worship at Hope, Heppner, is at 11 a.m. The rite of confirmation for Matt Berretta, Audra Bunch, Casey Evans, Casey Ingraham, and Glenn Nesse will be celebrated at Hope Lutheran Church on Holy Trinity Sun day, June 11, at 11 a.m. have enormous pay-off for youth participating in contests and exhibits, said Michael-Bennett. Parents are responsible for helping children register for ex hibits and contests, as well as getting members and materials to the right activity at the pro per time. Leaders are willing to help, but parental involvement and support is vital to the youth's self-confidence and en joyment of fair activities, Michael-Bennett said. A goal for the 1995 pre-fair is to in crease awareness of the con tests available to all 4-H members regardless of project area. Presentations, Scrapbook, My Favorite Outfit, Educational Displays, Beef Ambassador, and Wheat and You are con tests that any Morrow County 4-H member can enter. Many of the activities will be lead by junior and teen leaders. This is the place to get answers to questions about 4-H fair ac tivities. AWANA Clubs presented year-end awards to clubbers in an awards program at Lex ington Baptist Church. “ We are very excited about the achievements accomplish ed by the clubbers this year," said Loren Unruh, the club commander. The awards pro gram included a talk given by Pastor Tim VanCleave of the Christian Life Center, Hepp ner. Then each club director presented awards to their clubbers. In SPARKS, represented by clubbers in the kindergarten through the second grade, director Karen Temple present ed several awards. Earning their first book ribbons were David Flynn, Cory McGuire, Gina McKinney, and Jake Gavin. Earning second book ribbons were Sarah Gavin, Amy Jepsen, Brianne Jones, Abby Key, Kelsie McKinney, Mat thew VanCleave, and James VanLiew. SPARKY plaques, representing completion of all three SPARKS books, were presented to Jessica McGuire, Kimberly Morris, and Kristal Temple. HJH track team break records Family barbecue The Willow Creek Country Club will have a family barbecue on Sunday, June 4, at 4 p.m. Each family will bring their own meat. Those whose names begin with " A " through “ I" should bring dessert; " J " through " Z " should bring salad. Rollie and Debbie Marshall, Mike and Regina Mills, Roy and Juanita Martin, and Dean and Mary Gilman will host the barbecue. The Heppner Junior High Track Team finished the 1995 track season with an awards night held May 16, attended by athletes, parents and family members. The eighth grade girls and boys teams captured team titles at the championship meet held May 12 in Umatilla. The eighth grade boys retained their seventh grade championship. Heppner's seventh grade girls and boys tobk second place out of the 10 schools participating. More junior high school records continued to fall at the meet, with the following records established: Tim Dickenson-1500m , 4:53.27, old record Dickenson, '94-4:56.46; medley relay- Shane M atheny, Derek Gunderson, Brian Knowles, Casey Evans, 3:07.36, old record set May 5 by Levi Geer, Royal Robinson, Derek Gunderson and Shane M atheny, 3:12; Derek Gunderson-long jump, 18'5", old record Gunderson, 18'3", May '95; Derek Gunderson- 200m sprint, 25.25, old record Alex Lindsey, 25.62 in 1982. in 1982. Abby Kahl-400m record of 1:05.75, and Amber Peck 1:06.30, old record Missy Turner, 1:06.40, 1982. Kahl also set a new 800m record at 2:42, old record, Kim Stookey, 2:43.63, 1986. Royal Robinson threw the discus 106' to break the 1995 record of 103'6'' set by Andy Sykes. Those coming up just shy on records this season were Levi Geer in the 400m and 800m, Derek Gunderson in the 100m dash, Matt Jepsen in the 100m hurdles, and Amber Peck in the 100m hurdles.
