Everyone is welcome to at tend the dinner Cards win non-conference game By Anne Morter Watching the lady Cards' matchup Friday, O ct. 28, against W asco County, it would have been hard to guess the game was non-conference. The teams fought long and hard for each point in the marathon match. But while the game didn't count in league standings, both teams knew that it did count for something since both will be participants in this weekend's district cham pionship tournament. The lady Cardinals gritted out a tough win in the match, 13-15, 15-7, 15-11. Six seniors, Kim Bedortha, Mary Jane McCarty, Allison Su llivan , Jessica S te fa n i, Bridget McElligott and Becky Picknell, started their last home volleyball game Friday night. They had little time to revel in that fact as the Redsides came out on a mission. The Cardinals found themselves down but then rallied to take the lead. But Wasco County had the final ral ly and went on to take the game. Coach Charity McEl ligott noted that the girls were nervous and consequently didn't play their usual brand of ball. The second game saw much better passing, coverage and hitting by the Cards as they settled down and found some rhythm. In the third game, the Cards jumped out early, leading 12-5 at one point. The Redsides rallied as the lady Cards struggled to get the last three points but lone was finally able to put the game away. The Cardianls served 90 per cent in a game where they went to the service line 78 times. Sullivan led the way with 13 points on 21 for 21 serving. Bedortha had 11 points with one ace on 16 of 17 serving and McCarty scored nine points on perfect 18 of 18 serving. The team tallied a 93 percent serve receive statistic led again by Sullivan with 95 prcent on 22 of 23 serve received. Melissa McElligott had 100 percent of the attempts and Bedortha and Suzie Heideman played strong in the back row. In blocking M elissa McElligott was 100 percent on 21 blocks with 12 stuffs and Heideman missed just one of her 13 attempts. Setters McCarty and Becky Wagenblast had a workout with 108 sets between them. Both girls tallied a 94 percent success rate.
