The Pirates beat the Rockets, 8-2, on April 10. RHS parents plan graduation party A Boardman parent task-force working toward ‘‘Operation Gradua tion” met Monday, April 2, to pro vide the Riverside Senior Class of 1990 a safe, alcohol and drug-free celebration. The celebration will in clude a senior party at the Tri City Athletic Court Club on Saturday, May 26. “ We have joined parents all across the United States who are concerned about the tragic number of teens who never live to see the sunrise after their commencement. “ Operation Graduation” is intend ed to assure a wonderful, fun-filled event that the seniors of 1990 will rem em ber fo re v e r,’’ said a spokesperson. The committee is soliciting dona tions from anyone who is interested in being part of this endeavor. “ Monetary contributions and any items suitable for door prizes will be most welcome,” said a comittee member, “ and should be sent to “Operation Graduation,” P.O. Box 140, Boardman. 97818. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 23, at the Dodge City Diamond Spur room at 7 p.m. RHS FFA sponsors donkey ball By Marty Suter The Riverside FFA chapter and Donkey Sports. Inc., will be presen ting an exciting evening of basket ball with a twist...each player will be mounted on a donkey. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at Daltoso Gymnasium. “ Buy your tickets early,” said a spokesperson “ as prices will be $1 more at the door.” Tickets are available at the Boardman Phar macy, Irrigon Market or from any FFA member. Prices are: $4 adults, $3 student and $2 children. “ The tickets come with a guarantee of at least one good laugh.” For information or tickets contact Rick Danielson, 481-2525 or Joy Hellberg, 922-3675. Frances Glenn to present seminar Frances Glenn, business law and U.S. history teacher at Riverside High School in Boardman and Erin M cCusker, U.S. history and language arts teacher at Weston- McEwen High School in Athena will be presenting a workshop for all teachers on the subject of “ U.S. Supreme Court Cases That Have Shaped American History.” The workshop will be held May 5 at the E.S.D. office in Pendleton from 9-12. Both teachers attended a four-day workshop sponsored by Oregon Law Related Education in Portland in January and February. Oregon Supreme Court Justice W. Michael Gillette and Willamette University professor Sue Leeson participated with 37 teacher delegates from around the state. Glenn and McCusker will present sample lesson plans for K-12 that were developed at the workshop. Any teachers or others interested in attending should contact Glenn at 481-2525 or McCusker at 566-3555. There will be no charge for the workshop. Be ready for fishing season It opens APRIL 21st! At the mound for the Pirates were Scott Timms in the first game and Matt Andreason in the second game. see slide show Co-op selects reps to attend camps Columbia Junior High “ Talented and Gifted” students took a tour of Europe when Angelas Smythe of Boardman presented a program of slides to the group March 30. Angela narrated a 45-minute pro gram of her family’s tour of twelve European countries last October. Both she and her brother Jason told of experiences crossing into East Germany, the variety of food and lodging, travel, and the many peoples of the countries. Twenty- two students thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and asked various ques tions following the time spent with Angela. Coordinator for the group is Sally Edinger. Umatilla Electric Cooperative Association selected Amy Ganten- bein and Randy Beard as their representatives to attend co-op camps in Washington, D.C. and Nevada this summer. Gantenbein, a junior, will repre sent Umatilla Co-op in Washington, D C. She has attended the Umatilla Electric Co-op camp in Wells, Nevada. She will learn about several of the cooperatives and will tour the capital city. Junior Randy Beard will attend the camp in Nevada as the Umatilla Co op alternate. If one of the representatives for the Umatilla Electric Cooperative Association cannot attend their camp, sophomore Laurel Glenn will be the alternate to take that place. Last year’s Nevada representative, Mindy Nix, found that she learned alot, yet still had fun. “ We learned about electrification, but also about things that affect our everyday lives,” said Nix.
