Riverside Pirates damage Mustangs

On Thursday. October 12. the
Heppner Mustangs traveled to
Boardman to play the Riverside
Pirates The Pirates struck first on
a 60-yard screen pass from quarter
hack Jeremy Tosey to Matt An

7 to 0 first quarter lead
The strong play of the Mustang
defense kept the Pirates m check for
the remaining of the first half, while
the Mustang offense couldn't get
anything rolling
To start the second half the
Mustangs received the kickoff, hut
couldn't do anything and had to
punt The next play Riverside's
fullback Tim Hill ran it *8 yards for
the second Pirate touchdown of the

The Mustangs had a chance to get
hack into the game in the fourth
quarter, hut failed to do so with the
hall inside the 10 yard line River
side scored one more time with six
seconds left in the game when
quarterback Tovey ran it in from one
yard out The extra point attempt
failed, nuking the final score River

Defensively for the Mustangs.
Russell Britt had a tumble recovery
and IV<ug Devin had an interception
Riverside did most of their damage
on one play, the middle screen,
which they executed three times for
46 yards and one touchdown The
Mustangs next game will he at home
this Friday against Umatilla

first quarter Quarterback David Wagenblast hit Garrett for a
65 yard pass play in the fourth quarter to finish out lone's
scoring.

cond league game o f the season,
when they traveled to The Dalles on
October ¡0 to take on the Wahtonka
Fagles The Fillies were beaten in
iwo games 10-15. 5 15
In the first game the Fillies stayed
close with the Fagles. hut Wahtonka
pulled away for the 10-15 victory
The second game didn't gel much

The Heppner Fillies traveled to
Riverside on Oct 12 to battle the
Pirates in a big CHC contest This
was the first meeting of Ihe season
between the two Morrow County
rivals Riverside heat Heppner in
three games 15 -4, II 15, 7-15
Heppner came out fired up.in the
first game and with aggresive play
to heat Riverside 15 4 The Fillies
were led at the serving line by Joan
na Welch and Amy Greenup who
each served for six points
Coach Tern Gentry was pleased
with the Fillies performance in the
first game and said she thought the

On Wednesday. fXt II. the
Heppner Ponies met their match
against the Fcho Cougars in their last
home game 33 ith the 8th graders up
first, the excitement and pressure
were easily utkler control at the girls
walked away winning two out of
three games
With the 7th grade girls looking on
