Ralph DeBoer. Ed Glenn. Glenna Greer. John Dawson. Kelly Wright and Richard Wright filed the suit against N»ard members Dwayne Cam>ll. Bill I>»herty. Jerry McElligott. Marcia Kemp. Bob Mahoney. Julie Ashheck and the Morrow County School District Although the suit docs not mention a dollar amount, it did indicate that the group was going after hoard members personal asset*, and not district money Three claims were mentioned in the lawsuit, the first saying that the board violated legal duties through the misapplication of public funds when it hired at least three 'illegal professional strike breakers" to replace regular teachers during the strike The suit asks that mdis idual board members be ordered to repay to the district dll money spent to "recruit, solicit, and advertise for strike breakers and to pay professional strike breakers for their illegal ser v ic e s " . during the strike. The suit also asks that board members pay plaintiffs attorney's fees V (•arelen clubs announce contest winners Representatives from local clubs to the Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs annual convention in June have announced that local con testants won several awards In the Conservation Poster contest for third and fourth grades. Leah Denton of Heppner won se cond place and Felicity Warren of lone won third In the third to filth grade Melissa McElligott of lone won first and Mia Swanson of Union, third First place in all classes of wild flower slides went to Mrs Fred Martin of lone Club history scrap N>ok competition gave fust to Con Jon Garden Club ami third to Hepp ¡•i The second claim in the lawsuit staled that the Nurd committed fraud by misrepresenting to parents of students the qualifications of the replacement teachers The suit says the Nurd conducted a "fraudulent campaign" to parents of district students that the replace ment teachers hail been properly recruited and hired, when in fact they had not AltNxigh once again the suit did not name an exact amount, it did say the Nurd members should he nude to pay “ substantial general and special damages", for pain, anger, embarrassment and other emotional distress caused by hiring the replace ment teachers The third claim in the lawsuit says the Nurd violated election law following the resignation of Nurd member Joe Stevens Feb 21. l*J8q The suit states that as a result of the failure by the Nurd to declare Stevens seat vacant, "the voters of the district were deprived of the right to have a timely vote on a replace ment Nurd member " The seven county residents who filed the lawsuit are being represented by a Portland attorney Ralph Wiser, a mcnilicr of the law firm of Durham.
