Women Pat Edmundson Forest Service holds open house The Umatilla national Forest is 80 year* old. and the Heppncr Ranger District is celebrating by hosting an open house Thursday. August 18 during business hours and from 7 to 9 p m at the District Office in Hepp ner. The public is encouraged to come see what is happening in your forest What is known today as the Umatilla National Forest is actually the result of numerous consolida tions and name changes that took place during a period of nearly 20 years after the turn of the century fhe first forest to he named the Umatilla was originally called the Heppncr Forest laicalcd in Mor row, Wheeler, and Grant counties, the Heppncr Forest was established in 1903 with headquarters in Hepp ner Additions were made periodically and in 1908. the Hepp ner Forest became the Umatilla Na tional Forest In 1902. the Blue Mountain Forest had heen establish 0 > ed It lay in Umatilla and Union counties east of Ukiah with head quarters in Sumpter In 1908. the Blue Mountain Forest was renamed the Whitman National Forest and then was transferred to the Umatilla National Forest 3 years later The Wcnaha Forest, established in 1902. was the third forest which would eventually become part of the Umatilla luxated in Asotin. Gar field. Columbia. Walla Walla. They were to do the business transactions, reports, deal w uh the problems the business had and choose the best solution to the problem J.J. said "it was a very educa tional experience. 1 learned a lot about business " "It was very infor mative about how businesses operate there is more to it than just selling I met a lot of pexiple and uime new friends " Benji's business simulation was selling jeans and shirts They had to take out a loan, and after many tran saction*. went bankrupt She met mans new friend*, heard several good speaker* and attended a number of seminar* all associated with business The students were divided into companies and over the week they were there, a vollcyhall tournament was held Benji'* team won one game and lo*t one game "It was a lot of fun.
