Infants and Childrens (WIC) program in the monthly press release W 1C is a food and nutrition pn> gram lor low income women, tpreg nant or breast feeding), infants to I year of age and children to age five Clients arc counseled concerning nutrition and needs, also each client is weighed and measured and given a hematocrit level test that is done to measure blood Hemoglobin for anemia If the clients qualify both in in come and nutritional needs, they are added to WIC and given monthly food vouchers Specific foods and amounts of spec ific brands o f foods arc listed on the vouchers Avanex ample, only juice that meets health requirements are allowed as frozen orange juice, not sweetened drinks Some foods listed arc milk, cheese, eggs, cereals, juice, dried beans or peanut butter Infants arc supplied formula arid later juice and cereal WIC is sponsored by the Oregon Slate Health Division and Depart ment o f Agriculture A W IC counselor is available in the Center the third Friday o f eac h month from 9 a m -12 noon and I -3 p m Linda Knopf o f Hcrmiston is the certifier and is available at other limes in the Hcrmiston office Boardman and Ir- rigon clients arc seen at the Her- mision office and south Morrow County office in Heppner at the Neighborhood Center August 19 will be the date for the next clinic The Adult and Family Services counsekir will be at the ('enter on -..T V ..
