TWENTY-FOl'R-Morrow County Fair ami Rode Premium Book OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY Stephea Campbell Birdine Tullis GENERAL 4-H RULES 1. OPEN TO ALL REGULARLY ENROLLED 4-H CLUB MEMBERS in Morrow County. 2. ALL EXHIBITS MUST BE THE WORK OF THE MEMBER, completed or owned during the current 4-H year. All fitting, training, care and showing of animals will be done by the exhibitor. Members must be enrolled in the project in which they are exhibiting and must exhibit in the highest phase they completed during the club vear. 3. EACH EXHIBITOR MUST PRE -REGISTER LIVESTOCK EXHIBITS AND CONTESTS he is entering. The pre-entries are turned into the Morrow County Extension Office July 27. 4. Exhibitors must fill out a 4-H premium sheet in order to receive premiums. Those exhibits and-or contests not listed will not receive premiums. Use a different 4-H Premium Sheet for each exhibitor. Additional 4-H Premium Sheets are available from the County Extension Offices in Heppner and Irrigon and from the Fair Office during the Fair. ALL PREMIUM SHEDETS MUST BE COMPLETED AND TURNED INTO THE FAIR OFFICE NO LATER THAN 11.00 a.m. MONDAY, AUGUST 13. 5. Ase Divisions are based on the rrade in school. JUNIOR grades 4th, 5th, and 6th INTERMEDIATE - grades 7th. 8th and 9th SENIOR grades 10th. 11th and 12th 6. ENTRY DEADLINES: See schedule in the front of this book for entry schedule. Style revue entries judging Friday, Aug. 10. 7. THE DANISH SYSTEM will be used in all exhibits, including style revue, presentation and contests other than judging contests. Champion and Reserve Champion ribbons are awarded in each class as deemed worthy by the judge 8. HERDSMANSHIP. Animal waste must be handled according to the direction of your livestock supervisor and-or the fair management. If containers or trucks are available waste must be placed directly in them. Members or clubs are encouraged to bring wheelbarrows to carry the waste. Pens should be kept neat and clean while using as little straw as possible. Alleyways should be free of debris and clean. Premium checks will not be released until pens are cleaned. 9. Exhibitors that desire to sell their animals through the sale must submit a "feed and growth record" current up to the fair weigh-in. These need not be a specific form, although "4-H 140R" will suffice, but should include the following data: member's name, animal's name and description, purchase date and weight, animal's breeding, all weights made during the project period, a record of all feed consumed and its cost, a record of veterinary and other expenses, and other data that is pertinent to your records. The object of these records is to help you determine whether you made, or lost money on your project. 10.ONLY ONE ENTRY PER LOT excep( that 4-H members can enter two market lambs or two market hogs. H kite -MM -OPEN TO ALL H MEMBERS To include demonstrations and illustrated talks (any oral presentation that uses visual aids to present information) PRESENTATION TOPIC MAY BE ANY SUBJECT MEMBER WISHES TO SHARE WITH OTHERS Team presentations will consist of two members. 30 minutes is allowed for each presentation to be set up. presented and cleared away. This must be done by the 4-H member. The actual presentation should take less than 20 minutes. Member will furnish all supplies and equipment required except table, range or refrigerator. Not to exceed 30" wide, 24" deep (back to front) and 24" high. SCORING 1. Attracts, holds interest 25 2. Workmanship, arrangement, neatness 25 3. Tells a story (educational value) 25 4. Conservation DIVISION 2 4-H SUBJECT MATTER DISPLAY PREMIUMS Blue-$4.00. Red-$3.00. White-$2.00 -OPEN TO ALL 4-H MEMBERS Eligible for state fair. These classes are open to all 4-H members and are especially appropriate for those projects which ha ve no project exhibits and for locally developed projects . Indi vidual displays are limited in size to 30" in width, 24" deep (front to back), and 30" high. The exhibit may include pictures, models, diagrams, and actual articles. It may be a poster, a three-dimensional display, or a notebook. It should be substantial. Displays must show and explain something the 4-H members have made, done, or learned such as how and why wool shrinks, why bread rises, safe use of tools, how bees communicate, or how waves are formed.
