The seat is now held by Rep. Max Simpson who is not seeking re-election. Himmelsbach is a self-em ployed attorney. He and his wife Kathleen have five children. Himmelsbach has served 25 years as Baker County Dist rict Attorney and as County Counsel. He is also an Air Corps veteran of World War II. She is the incumbent and has served in this capa city since January 1, 1980. Her husband's name is James and she has three children and three step-children. Her community service act ivities include: Director of the Morrow County Historical So ciety; secretary of the Sorop timist Club of Heppner; mem ber of the Lexington Grange and the Heppner Methodist . Church. She graduated from Hep Jannette Marie Evans Jan Evans, 35, of Irrigon is running against incumbent Barbara Bloodsworth for the Democratic nomination for Morrow Co. Clerk. She is currently an accountant with the firm Mike R. Hunter. CPA. She and her husband Ken have four children. Evans lists her community service as 4-H leader in cook ing, creative arts and live stock; helping with senior cit izen dinners; treasurer for 4-H leaders council; and president of the altar society.. She is a graduate of Hep pner High School and holds an accounting degree from Blue Mt. Community College. Her previous political ex perience includes being elect ed to the Irrigon Park Board. Bloodsworth worked with the Morrow County Assessor's office for one and one-half years, fourteen and one-half years as Morrow County De puty Clerk, one year as book keeper for J.C. Penny Co., and four years as a legal secretary for Joseph J. Nys. She has submitted the fol lowing statement concerning her candidacy for re-election: "Most of the functions of the Morrow County Clerk's Office cannot be learned other than by experience or thorough knowledge of the Oregon Re vised Statutes. My opponent's campaign has stressed the fact that she possesses an accounting background. The county accounting has not been a function of the County Clerk's Office for the last two years, ii is now done oy a County Accountant under the direct supervision of the County Court. My goals have always been to serve the public faithfully and to the best of my ability, and to create an atmosphere that makes the public aware that questions that can't be answered elsewhere can be brought to the Clerk's Office. I seethe Clerk's Office as the nerve center of County Gov ernment, and try to serve the public accordingly." Heppner is running unopposed for the Democratic nomina tion for the Office of Morrow County Assessor. He has held the office of Assessor since 1979. Sweek and his w ife Marsha have two children. His community service act ivities include: he is a mem Donald V. Eppenbach Donald V. Eppenbach, 48, of Irrigon is running for the Democratic nomination against Jerry Peck for the office of Morrow Co. Commis sioner. He is currently employed by the city of Irrigon as city recorder, and is also a self employed building contractor. Eppenbach and his wife. Donna, have two children. He graduated from Irrigon High School and Blue Mt. Community College and has a Master of Arts degree in 19th Century European History from Iowa State. 1970. Eppenbach's community activities include: lay leader. Community Baptist Church; member' of the Board of Directors, American Baptist Churches of Oregon; Chair- served on Little League Board for two years in Boardman; he is presently involved with the Irrigon Lions and Irrion Crime Watch; he is also a member of the Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon. Ming has submitted this statement regarding his candidacy : "Morrow County needs a resident as county surveyor to work closely with the planning dept. There is a need to have the county surveyor closer to Lexington to keep the records in order and up to date. Sweek earned a B.S. in Agriculture from Oregon State University and is a certified appraiser for the state of Oregon. He also states that he has participated in "various appraisal and com puter courses from 1979 to the present." He has submitted the follow ing statement: "Since tny appointment in 1979 and subsequent election in 1980, 1 have tried to modern ize and streamline the func tions of the Assessor's office. In August of 1983, the records of the Assessor's office were put on computer which has allowed us to present more useful information to the pub lic as well as economizing on the staff's time. This time savings has allowed us to provide more service to the public, in addition to fulfilling our statutory requirements." His previous political exper ience includes: eight years on the Irrigon Planning Commis sion; eight years on the Ir rigon City Council; three years as Mayor; and he has worked with Morrow Co. Court on various committees and as liason between City and Court. Eppenbach submitted the following statement concern ing his candidacy : "Interest in Morrow County development has come from observing growth in the entire county and discussing matters of various natures with County personnel. It appears that what is needed is a person willing to help coordinate the proposed programs in such a way as to allow the completion of plans already developed. I would rather see the entire County benefit than to limit one area in favor of another. Areas showing growth should be encouraged and helped, but in such a manner as to com pliment a total plan. "My main concerns are road improvements, both existing and proposed, medi cal care and facilities for the county as a whole and the north end in particular, and a planned development for the enticement of industry and residents into the county." Margo Sherer County Sheriff unopposed Vote for one Roy L. Drago Roy Drago, 53, Boardman, is running unopposed for tle Democratic nomination for Morrow Co. Sheriff. He has served in that capacity for one year since his appointment after the resignation of Larry Fetsch. Drago and his wife Gail have three children. He graduated from hitch school in 1947 and has an intermediate certificate from the Board of Police Standards one G.W. (Jerry) Peck G.W. (Jerry) Peck, 43, Boardman is running against Don Eppenbach for the Demo cratic nomination for Morrow Co. Commissioner. He is em ployed parttime at the Nomad restaurant and Peetsa Korner and parttime as a private investigator. He and his wife Kayrn have four children. Peck graduated from Boardman High in 1958 and attended Oregon Tech for one year. i jj -- js - - County Treasurer unopposed Vote for one Margo Sherer, 43, lone, is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination for Morrow County treasurer. She is the incumbent treasurer and tax collector. She and her husband Rich ard have three sons. Sherer lists the following service in public office: Deputy Tax Collector January 1977-October 1979; Morrow Co. Tax Collector October 1979 -December 1980; Morrow Co. Treasurer and Tax Collector from January, 1981 until December, 1984. She is involved in commun ity activities as a member of the Soroptimists of Heppner; second vice-president of the Oregon Association of County Tax Collectors. and Training. Drago's prior police ex perience includes six years with the Easteide Police De partment with three years as patrol sergeant and two years as a reserve officer. He also served as a special patrolman with the Yonkers, New York, Police Department. He work-f ed as a Deputy Sheriff wjift Morrow County from August 1, 1980 until he was appointed Sheriff on April 20, 1983. He worked for 'the Oregon State Highway Department In the Astoria area from 1947 1950. He then served for five years In the U.S. Army as a Platoon Sergeant and Motor Sergeant. Drago Is a member of the OSSA, NOCOP. and a member of the Criminal Justice Advis ory Board, Blue Mt. Commun ity College. Drago has submitted the following reasons for his can didacy ; 'To build and maintain a professional sheriff's depart ment, to better serve the citizens of Morrow County while staying within budget ary realities of today's econ omic situation." His previous political ex perience includes serving on the Morrow Co. School Board from 19C8 - 75; the Boardman City Council 1974 75; and as mayor of Boardman from 1978 to the present. i'exk was named 1981 citizen of the year by the Heppner Morrow County Chamber of Commerce. He submitted the following statement concerning his can didacy : "In 196 I returned to Mor row County to raise my child ren in the same type of enviro nment that I grew up in. It is my desire to help continue this quality of life In our county. I have been actively involved in local government for the last 18 years. In my seven years on the Morrow County School Board, I proved my ability to represent all areas of the county and its people. During the past 10 years as council man and mayor of Boardman, I have been challenged with many difficult decisions while in an extreme growth period. This experience has given me the opportunity to serve on many county and stale com mittees. Therefore, I feel that I am the best qualified for the position of Morrow County Commissioner. She is a graduate of Odessa High School, Odessa, Wash ington and has taken classes in computer operations, governmental accounting, tax laws and management.
