J;in 14 at home. Aflcr a Rood warm up and a l-p talk from Coach Mike Hover, the Fillies came nut on the court fired up and ready to win The tipoff went to the Vikmtfs to start the Ramp, but the Fillies hustled hack on defense, holding the Vikings from scoring, flood defense by lleppncr forced the Vikings to turn the hall over and Heppner went all the w ay in to score the first two points of the game. Heppner was really hustling for the rcUmnds and held I'malilla to only oris shot each time down the court. The Fillies ran through their plays until I hey were open for two points By the end of the first quarter the Fillies were In the lead 12 5 The second quarter started with the Fillies recieving the tipoff and taking the hall down court Heppner started to get into a little foul trouble, giving I'matilla a chance to make free points at the free throw line However. Heppner jump ed in and grabtx-d down the relound I'matilla started to use a trap defense at the end of the second quarter which left a few of the Heppner players open, to put the shot up for another two points. The Fillies held the Vikings to only two points in the second quarter Former area man returns to EasternOregon bank Marion C. Green, formerly of Heppner, has been named vice president -manager of Oregon Hank's Pendleton branch, announced Rebecca Carter, public relations mana ger for the bank. Green returns to the area after 13 years as vice president-manager of Oregon Hank's Keedsport branch on the Oregon coast. Green began his career in banking in l!r7 with a bank in Eastern Oregon. Heppner was hack out on the court lo start the second half of the game ready to play. The Fillies recieved the tipoff and took the ball down court. Heppner was doing very well both offensively and defen sively gelling the rebounds. The Fillies really started to take control, They were play ing good defense and offense. Heppner used a .one defense throughout the whole game, really hustling to get to the ball By the end of the third quarter Heppner was ahead by 15 points The score was .14-19. The fourth quarter started with Heppner recieving the tipoff Heppner was still hustl ing and moving quick on defense As the Fillies con tinued playing good basketball they also started to get them selves in foul trouble again but that didn't hold the Fillies back. They went on to win the game The final score was Heppner 52. Umatilla 32. Jodi Padberg led the Fillies with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Missy Turner had six assists for Heppner. Lana Reid, Mis sy Turner. Pam Orr and Stephi Payne all had three steals. Coach Mike Koyer said the game was, "Probably our best defensive effort for this year. I expected an emotional let down after the Pilot Rock win but it never happened. The girls deserve a lot of credit, they played well." High School in 1951. He also attended Oregon State Univer sity and graduated from the Pacific Coast Banking School in 19fi. While in Reedsport. Green held several civic posts includ ing: chairman of the board of directors of the Lower Umpqua Hospital, chairman ol the budget committee of School District R-l and he served as a member of the City of Reedsport 's budget committee. The Cardinals lost R7 lo 25 o the Echo Cougars on Saturday. Jan. 14. lone played very well in the first period and was tied at eight with Echo midway through the first period. Echo them scored 10 straight points to lead 18-8. Tresi Burcham led Echo wilh eight points. The Cougars ran wild for 21 second stanza points en route to a 19 16 halftime lead. Jan. 13. at Pilot Rock. After a good warm up for the Fillies they were out on the court ready to play. Heppner received the tipoff to start the game The Fillies took the ball down court and passed it around until they had an open shot. Unfortunately the ball didn't go in and the Rockets grabbed the rebound and were off Good defense by the Fillies gave them a steal and Hep pner took the ball down court to put it in for the first two points of the game. Heppner was hurting a little on re bounds, both offensively and defensively, but when they got the ball it went down the court and in for two points. The Fillies were really hustling. The score was close at the end of the first quarter although Pilot Rock was ahead, 6-10. Heppner recieved the tipoff to start the second quarter. A turnover gave the ball to Pilot Rock, but the Fillies were back down on defense. Hep pner was playing great de fense, not letting the ball get inside, forcing Pilot Rock to take the outside shots. Hep pner's rebounds were better but Pilot Rock still shot twice and sometimes three times Former Heppner pastor to return for visit Former pastor of the Hep pner Seventh-Day Adventist church, the Rev. The Cards made 11 of 45 field goals for 24 percent, compared to 25 for 67 or 37 percent. Sandi Wright led lone with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Pattv McEIIigott and Paula Anderson added rebounds to the effort. Burcham and Seifer led the Cougars with 14 and 11 points respectively. Back on offense. Heppner was playing great team ball. The Fillies ran through their plays looking for the open shot to put it up for two. It was an exciting game and the score was tied at 15 by the end of the second quarter. The third quarter started with the tipoff going to Pilot Rock. Heppner was back down playing great defense. The Fillies also started to rebound a lot better, both defensively and offensively. Heppner was really hustling and by the end of the third quarter the Fillies took the lead 24-22. The fourth quarter started and Heppner recieved the lump ball. The Fillies took it down court and all the way in for two points. The Fillies were playing super defense and kept that up until the end of the game. The Fillies start ed to get into a little foul trouble which gave the Roc kets a chance for free points at the free throw line. Heppner didn't give up however. The HHS girls played a super game but the Rockets came out on top with a score of 34-38. "We had a slow start, but came on pretty strong in the third and fourth quarters. Our offense was a little weak. I feel that overall, the game was okay, but not up to their potential." said Heppner Coach Karen Howe. Poole, his wife. Tammy, and daughter. Heather, presently reside in Ellensburg, Wash, where he pastors the Ellens burg church and the Cle Elum church. The Cardinals were without guard Mark Meyers who suf fered an ankle injury the night before. Meyers will be out for three weeks. Echo ran out to a quick 18 to 6 lead after the first quarter. Pat Seifer and Bink Ramos tossed in 14 of the Cougar points. The Pirates jumped all over the Cardinals in the first quar ter taking a 27-6 lead. Jill Wittenberg and Shirlene Walker had 19 of the Pirate points. Each team scored six second stanza points as Cas cade Locks led 33 to 12 at intermission.
