He sure to browse through "Shorty's Museum" cf old farm machinery, etc, Then come inside to s-e the great display of ol dies and collec t.ibles in the Collector's Corner, Hark outsirle, there's the little log cabin saluting the pioneers of the county. Walk inside to see the primitive table, chairs, stove, the old bed and quilt and other old time decor. Don't overlook the antique items scattered through out the rmilding to serve as contrast or em pha sis of the new and the old. Are arts and crafts your favo rites? The newly installed back grounds of old barn boards will show off the talents of many local artists and photographers. The art area has been updated with more space for both display and viewing. The special corner for adult crafts and hobbies always pro vides stimulation to the creative. The younger set, too, have their own area which has been rear ranged and expanded for easier viewing Old barn boa: Js here, too. will show off the new ideas in crafts of interest to the young The Teen Owner will blend with the Kids' Corner, to make it more special for youth of the county. Handiwork, sewing, foods nd food preservation will all occupy their special place in the building with arts and crafts The major part of the main pavilion area is designated "ag riculture" with flowers, fruits, vegetables and all farm products grouped for enjoying there. Har vest has been bountiful. Look for sheaves of wheat, hay, potatoes and all farm products, as well as the grain exhibits. Morrow County is an agricultural county. An expanded fair section salutes all involved in agriculture. The 4-H Annex, along with the other buildings, will emphasize "New Ideas" while building on the traditions of the old. The best of the 4-H year for home ec.. creative arts and all other project areas except livestock, will be on display in the annex. there you may also enjoy the various contests and presenta tions along with the exhibits. Visit the barns. You'll be amazed at the high quality of the 4-H and F.F.A. animals. They'll go on sale at the auction, so pick the one you want. There's much more to see and do. The Family Fun Nile Show and dinner, 4-H Fashion Revue, the New Idea Crafts Yard, live stock shows and contests and auction. Come to the Fair. Be involved. You'll like it! Local and regional talent to compete at Rodeo j J" r Morrow County cowboys and cowgirls will converge in Hep pner on Friday. August 26, to compete in the Morrow County Rodeo. The 7 p m. event is limited to county residents of at least one year who will be competing in cow milking, steer wrestling, cow riding, open calf roping, team roping, senior and junior barrels and Morrow County calf roping. For the real rodeo fan, the excitement will begin at 4:30 that afternoon in calf roping, steer wrestling and team roping. Highlight of the show is the competition for the Morrow County Ail-Around award and the Morrow County Calf Roping award. Trophy saddles made by Severe Bros, of Pendleton will be presented to the winners at Sun day's rodeo. Kinzua Corp. will be presenting the calf roping saddle and Morrow County Grain Grow ers will give the all-around saddle. Parade to be "bigger and better" than ever Winners in each event will be vying for trophy clocks, silver buckles, a watch, or horse blan ket. All contestants must enter Monday, August 22, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the rodeo office at the fairgrounds, or call 676-5836. Rodeo action continues Satur day, August 27, and Sunday, August 28, with the W.R.A N.R.A. Open Rodeo. John Rattray of Condon will provide the exciting stock with Jake Grossmiller of Arlington as the announcer. Cowboys and girls from Ore gon. Washington and Idaho will compete for cash and prizes in bareback, saddlebronc, team roping, bull riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, steer wrest ling and barrels. There will be three races each day: the quarter-mile, baton relay and pony express. An added attraction will be bullfighter Fred Masterson's specialty act. He will harness a chariot to a bull during the show each day. Past queens and princesses and a drum and bugle corps will highlight this year's 1983 Morrow County Fair and Rodeo Parade which promises to be bigger than ever. The 10 a m parade will feature courts from the 61 years of royalty of the fair and rodeo. Over 35 former queens will be riding in the parade. The Stanfield Jr. Drum and Bugle Corps will add music and high stepping to the streets. Over $500 in prizes will be awarded to entrants in such categories as organization, busi ness floats, best riding group. Ist riding family, best courts, children's division, marching units, antique cars, clowns and many more. Parade Chairman Harley Sager invites businesses and in dividuals along with groups and organizations to participate. Entry forms can be obtained through Sager at First Interstate Bank, Heppner Branch. Ron McDonald will again be the announcer. All participants should be at the staging area at the grain elevators on the north end of Gale Street by 9 a.m. if Y "si 25 r.
