Top performances were seen from the Heppner con testants: Tara Mahoney. who placed first in senior girls goat tying and tied for first place with four other girls from Ail-Around Senior Girl: Rus sell Britt. who took first in junior boys steer riding; and Shawn Hisler, who placed first in the stick horse race for three and four -year-olds. Mahoney also was awarded the Jody Rugg Memorial Trophy tor being the high point Morrow Co. Senior girl, and the High Point Morrow County Contestant Award. Court against renaming dam By MARY ANN ( ERl'LLO Last week, complaints were heard by Morrow County Court from two Heppner resi dents as a result of the recent proposals to rename the Wil low Creek Dam. Dick Wilkinson and Randy Lott, both of Heppner. came before the court last Wednes day. June 9. urgently request ing that the Willow Creek Dam and lake not be named after Oscar Peterson or any other individual. On June 2. the court receiv ed a resolution from the Hep pner Morrow Chamber of Commerce, recommending that the dam. lake or both be named after Peterson. County Court did not endorse the resolution but prepared their own. suggesting the use of the late county judge's full name. Oscar Peterson. According to Dick Wilkin son, three out of four people are not in favor of naming the dam after Peterson. "I walk down the street and people approach me about it. (the renaming). According to a spokesperson for county court, the building inspection service will be-a-private service, out of the Planning Department. The county will receive thirty per cent of the inspector's fee and a line item under "Resources" in the 1982 83 budget is to cover receipt of fees, the service's only expense. In other business, the court learned that federal funds will be providing $11,000 toward the proposed bike path on Main Street in Boardman. The total cost of the project has been estimated at approxi mately $14,000. According to Commissioner Dorothy Krebs, the city Boardman has agreed of to match approximately $1,500 with the county, provided that Main Street is surfaced with an overlay. The court delayed approv ing the agreement with Board man until they received verifi cation from the city on the upkeep on the proposed path following the construction by the county. water and other resources. Judge undergoes surgery in Portland By MARY ANN CERl'LLO On Wednesday, June 9, Mor row County Judge Don McEI ligott underwent open heart surgery at Emmanuel Hospital in Portland. He then returned to surgery Tuesday, June 15, to have his gall bladder removed, said a county spokesperson.
