Craig A. Rea, son of Keith and Judy Rea of lone, has graduated as an armor reconnaissance specialist under the one . station Unit training (OSUT) program at the U.S. Army Armor School, Fort Knox. Ky. Extension Agent Ken Miller, manager of the Heppner branch of First Interstate Bank, was awarded a $20 cash prize for making the most profit in the futures market, while participating in a hedging workshop. Miller donated the prize to 4-H IF YE, and international youth ex change program. Miller was one of twenty eight Morrow County farmers, ranchers, and bankers who Co. students to compete in poster and essay contest A poster and essay contest. sponsored by the Oregon Veterinary Medical Associa tion Auxiliary, and titled "Pets are Partners," is now underway in local junior high schools. Open to all seventh and eighth graders, the contest will feature 500 word essays and 12 by 18 inch posters about their pet as a partner. Robert Watts Air Force basic training Airman Robert E. Watts, son of the Rev. Edwin and Zoe Watts of Heppner, has been assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base. Texas, after completing Air Force basic training. During the six weeks at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organiza tion and customs and received special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree in applied science through the Community Col lege of the Air Force. The airman will now receive Chamber hosts speaker By JUSTINE WEATHERFORD A long-time director of the Lions Clubs of Oregon, Ernie Sharp, came from John Day on Monday, March 1 to attend the Chamber of Commerce luncheon in Heppner where he explained the Oregon Lions Eye Bank had recently enlist ed Heppner mortician Pat Sweeney as a qualified offi cial. Each person was given $20,000 in computer money to trade on the futures market over a period of three weeks. Miller made $13. 885 profit in the April feeder cattle market. Joe McElligott was not far behind in realizing $9,831 profit in the wheat, lumber and cattle markets. 'Charlie Anderson made $4,902 in the wheat market. Not everyone invested as well. Of twenty active traders. Students may enter one or both contests and the deadline for entry is March 30. Heppner, lone and Irrigon schools will be participating in the contest, and three winners will be chosen from each school. First place prize in both categories is $10, second place is $5 and third place is an honorable mention. Heppner Lions Club, before he showed a film, passed out explanitory literature and re counted some of his personal experiences in working with the eye transplant program. Mrs. Sharp accompanied her husband and was also intro duced. She told persons sitting near her that along with her husband she had worked in their photo shop in John Day for many years. The Sharps sold that business several years ago, but Mr. Sharp still has a picture-framing shop in the community.
