Morrow County Search and Rescue Posse formed in 1972 By MARY ANN CEHl'I.LO The Morrow County Search and Rescue Posse was formed in May 1972 by Morrow County Sheriff John Mollahan and a group of 34 concerned citizens, with the help of Gus Peterson, a memter of the Grant County Posse. The formation was a reaction to the tragic moun tain search for Dr. Archie D. McCurdo during the hunting season of two years previous, 1971. Dr. Mc-Murdo's body was discovered by hunters Oct. 11 in the rugged Rig Potumus Creek area. He had disappeared Oct. 3 while hunting in the area with his son. Two fully cquiped vehicles, a van and a bronco, have been assigned to the posse by the , Department of Emergency Services, to be maintained at the posse's expense. Search and Rescue holds one business meeting per month, one board meeting per month and one training ses sion per month. First aid and cardiopulmonary resusci tation (CPR) are held when needed, The posse also has renewals of "Crash Injury Manage ment" which is accredited by the Rurea of Police Standards and Training. The Department of Emergency Services requires the posse to have 30 hours per year of training in all fields plus 10 hours of man tracking. The Easter Egg Hunt although still in the early planning stages, was a topic of vivid conversation and discus sion at the meeting and the club members have great hoes that it will prove to be an exciting event for the youth of lone and vicinity. The club's long term pro ject, the compilation of a community cook book w'as discussed at length and a list of the recipes already com piled from members of the community was provided for the club to look over. Everyone in lone is encour aged to submit their favorite recipes to Sue Proudfoot. 1 chairman of the cookbook committee. Club members have great hocs of having the bonk assembled and prepared for printing by early summer, and be ready for sales by this coming fall. Arrival date is targeted at July 28, with the young exchangees staying in the county about three weeks. Application to host one of the students is simple... and forms are available from Liz or the Extension office. The young Japanese are aged 12 through 17 years, and hostsi may choose either a boy or girl. They come to live with the family to learn our culture, and the ways of American youth in their age group.
