Shelly Strocger placed first in the 1500 meters with a time of 6 41.3 with Ellen Arbogast second and Joni Mitchell third Melinda Eubanks won the shot put at 23 5:,4 with Shawn Brill second and Cherrie Hager third Brill won the high jump with a mark of 4 4 with Janelle McFJhaney second and Trisha Mahoney third. Brenda Pettigrew is going to state with her effort of 15-1 in the long jump. Stepbi Payne placed second and Gayle Titus third. Pettigrew, with a throw of 75 3, and Tracy Burg, with a throw of S7, both qualified for the state Junior Olympic meet in the discus competi tion. Both students are from Boardman. Anne McLaughlin of lleppner was third. Greg Orr won the boys 400 meter run with a time of 1:08.7. In the shot put, Wimmer qualified for state with his throw of 37-6 with Cord Adams second and Steve Curtis third. Orr won the high jump with a leap of five feet. Craig Hams won the long jump with a leap of 17 11 with Lucas second and Adams third. Wimmer won the discus competition with a throw of Youngsters display P.E. skills Grade school students in grades 1 to 5 at Heppner Elementary participated in a physical education program for their parents during school last week. Students jumped rope, tum bled, played basketball, play ed volleyball, danced and did excercises in front of more than 100 persons in the junior hil gymnasium Woman golfers score Ladies' Day May 20 at Willow Creek Country Club had eight golfers playing in the morning and 14 in the afternoon. Morning winners were: Kay Anderson, low gross; Fran Crook, low net; and Sharon Harrison, least putts. The afternoon winners were: Pat Edmundson, low gross; Fran Crook and Roxie Lovgren, tie for low net; Betty Carlson and Dorris Graves, tie for least putts; and Roxie Lovgren, closest to the pin. St. The U.S. forest Service in the Pacific Northwest Region is forming a team of special ists to develop a management plan for the Mt. St. Helens area impacted by the volcanic eruption. R E. Worthington, regional forester, said the interdisci plinary team will look at both long-range and short range needs of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest area where Mt St. Helens is located. Included will be action in coordination with Washington state and county officials to remedy the trans portation system in the area, and to deal with some of the mudflows in the Toutle River. Worthington said other con siderations will include plans for the influx of visitors anticipated, the salvage of timber, access to National of their P.E. show. Jerry and Maryan McElli gott of lone, has been selected to participate in the Univer sity of Portland's extension program in Salzburg, Austria. Miss McElligott, a 1979 lone High School graduate, is a sophomore at the university majoring in communications. The program is conducted in cooperation with the Institute of European Studies. The 40 students enrolled will live and attend classes at the Univer sity of Portland Center in Salzburg for the 1980-81 aca demic year. They will study social sciences, fine arts, German and theology. The students will visit England, France, Germany, Austria. Italy and Greece.
