' y ' . . ; i v - mi- " - v n . - ' - - ! : ' ' " Kim Pettyjohn set an lone High School track record in the 200 meter dash Saturday at the Jo-Hi Invitational in LaGrande. The girls team placed third Tracksters place 10 th Kellie Hammond was first in the javelin to lead the Heppner High School girls track team to a 10th place finish out of 20 schools compet ing in the Jo-Hi Invitational Track Meet in LaGrande. Hammond won the event with a throw of 10B-9. Mary Kincaid was second in the high jump with a leap of 4-8. The winner in that event jumped 5-3'i. In the mert with 39 4 team points. Enterprise won the 20-team meet wilh 60 points. Pettyjohn's time of 27.3 seconds broke the school record as she came in first place. Cardinal Margaret Do herty tied the old school record of 27.6 as she came in second. Pettyjohn also sprinted her way to first place in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.1. Doherty was fifth in that race -in 13.6 spconds. In the long jump, Doherty was third with a jump of 14-9 and Pettyjohn fourth at 14-7 Ms. The two girls scored all of lone's team points. In the boys meet, lone came in fifth place with 46 team points. Union won the meet wilh 99. Robin LaKue came in first place in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.5 seconds. Gregg Itietmann was sec ond in the 200 meters in a time of 24.1 seconds. La Rue was third in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 42.8 seconds. Greg Gaines of Pilot Rock won in 42.5. Rietmann was third in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet. Jim Schaas of Union was the winner in that event with a jump of 20-6'i. The 400 meter relay team of Duane Fetsch, Rietmann, Jeff Hams and LaRue was third in the race with a time of 46.7. Umatilla won it in 45.5 seconds. Les Thompson had a per sonal best In the high jump with a mark of 5-10, His previous best was 5-6. The four top jumpers had marks of 5-10 but Wes Delpiere of Union won with the fewest misses at that height. Fetsch tied for fourth place in the 100 meters but lost a coin flip and was officially scored fifth. His time was 12.1 seconds. The winning time was 11.8. Thompson finished sixth in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 44.3. Hams was sixth in the 100 meters in 12.1 seconds. Dennis Stefani was sixth In the long jump with a mark of 18-6' after scratching on his first three jumps. Jim Parker of Heppner was second in the shot put, third in the discus and fifth in the triple jump at the Jo-Hi Invitational Track and Field Meet in LaGrande last Satur day. Heppner finished tied for Hammond breaks record Heppner's Kellie Hammond set a school record and Kim Pettyjohn of lone won three events in a girls track meet in Heppner last week. Hammond's javelin toss of 118-11 was almost seven feet farther than the record that she broke earlier in the I ason. .-Pettyjohn won the long jump with a leap of 15-11, the 100 meter dash in 13 1 and the 200 meter dash in 28 seconds. Heppner won the team title with 80 points with lone second with 68 and Echo last with 41. Mary Kincaid was a double winner wilh victories in the lot) meter high hurdles in a time of 18 8 and the BOO meter run in 2:50.1. Hammond was also a double winner as she won the high jump competition wilh a mark of 40G. Lisa Cook was a double winner for Echo with wins in the shot put and discus. . Lisa Mevers won the 1500 meter run for lone with a time of 6:05 4 and Lisa Wilson of Heppner won the 3.000 meters in 15:25.9. Jacobs was third in the 200 meter dash in 30 7 and Morter was second in the 800 meter run in 3:22 1. Margaret Kincaid was sec ond in the soo meter hurdles in SH seonds and Taylor third for lone in f4 In the closest race of the day, lone won the 400 meter relay in 56.6 with Heppner right behind at 56 7 and Echo close in third at 56 8. Hammond was second in the shot put at 30-1. Sherry Clement third with 27-7. Kin caid fourth at 25 7' and Michelle LaRue of lone fifth at 25 4 Clement was second in the discus at 79 3. 1-aRuc- third at 78-10 and Bonnie Arrington fourth for Heppner at GO-9'7. Arringlon was third in the javelin at 71 feet and Cindy Hill of lone fourth at 63-3',. Sports Schedule tone's Irack tram will compete in the Arlington Invitational at Arlington this Saturday beginning at 10 a m. Heppner's varsity boys and girls track teams will make the long trip to Wallowa to compete in the Mike Hollaran Invitational wilh Ihe starling time 11 a.m. The team will be at home next Tuesday at 4 p.m. competing in a meet with lone. Pilot Rock and Condon. Heppner's varsity baseball learn will have two straight home games this week. The team plays W ihtonka in a doubleheader Saturday starling al 1 p.m. April 29 Wasco comes to Heppner for a game at 4 p.m. The JV baseball team at Heppner has a doubleheader Monday beginning at 3:30 p.m. against Helen McCune Jr. High of Pendleton. Filly Lisa Wilson was sec ond in the 1500 meters at 6:19.9 and Diane Morter was third for lone at 6:38 6. Doherty was third in the 100 meters in 13 5 and Suzie Jacobs of Heppner fourth in 14 8. Hill was second in the 400 meters in 1:12.2 and Smith was third in 1:19 6. Patti Taylor was second in the 100 meter hurdles in Ihe 20.7 and Kim Miller third in 26.3. Eddi Skow shoots an 87 at Willow Run Ten women from the Willow Creek Country Club near Heppner participated in the annual Fun Day Tournament April 16 at the Willow Run Golf Club in Boardman. Eddi Skow shot at 87 for the first low gross score and Fran Crook shot a 93 for the second low gross. Joyce Winter shot a 58 for the first low net score and Harriett Evans had a 63 for the second low net. Kay Anderson was the closest to the pin and Barb Culsforth had the most honest score. ninth out of the 20 teams at the meet. Parker was the only Mustang to place in the top six of an event. Parker's throw of 51-2 placed him second in the shot put, 7'! inches behind winner Tom Prince. His throw was two inches short of a school record. His throw of 131-11 in the discus placed him third, more than two feet behind winner Sieve Butterfield of Joseph. Parker's best leap in the triple jump was 38-3' 4 for fith place. The winner was Sieve Califf of Umatilla at 41-10. It r.'
