April 24 1980 7j M 1 n i i - : ' lone Catapulters contest The team of Gregg Riet mann and Treve Peterson came in first place in the catapult building division of the skills contest at Blue Mountain Community College April 17. Rietmann and Peterson built a catapult and designed the machine that would throw a softball for distance and accuracy. Their catapult came in first place in both distance and accuracy. The team of Matt McElligott and Tim Key came in second place in distance and accur acy. The team of Ralph Morter and Jerry McElligott built a catapult that was fourth in accuracy. There were more than 1.000 "students at the BMCC skills contest from five counties and 42 were from lone. lone Principal Chuck Stan said students competed in a variety of academic and vocational skills including accounting, home economics, welding, mechanical drawing, science and radio broadcast ing. Results of the rest of the competition were not known by press time. Starr said prizes will be given to the winners at the lone Awards ceremony in three weeks.
