"Prospect is big and physi cal and they may have been the best team in the tourna ment," LaRue said. After trailing 22-15, lone made a run scoring 12 straight points to take a 27-22 lead. Shawn LaRue started the streak hitting both ends of one-and-one free throws and Treve Peterson did the same. Gregg Rietmann sank a 20 footer and Mark Patton scored inside to give lone its first lead in the game at 23-22 with three minutes left in the second quarter. But the streak was not over as Stefani scored after he stole the ball and Rietmann scored after an offensive rebound to end the 12-point string. lone still led at halftime 31-28. The teams traded baskets in the third quarter until Pro spect ran off a string of its own. Rasmusscn Miinagor of the local census office. Census takers will be as signed to their own neighbor hoods whenever possible, the manager said. Paid training will begin very soon, followed by several weeks of full-time work visiting homes and interviewing the residents. IB Census takers should be U.S. citizens age 18 or older. However, they may be hired at age lfi or 17 if they are high school graduates or have equivalent work experience. Also the citizenship require ment may be waived, espe cially for persons fluent in a foreign language as well as English. A census taker must be able to follow printed instructions, do simple arithmetic, and rend maps, all of which will be tested before Interviewing for hiring. Pay will average $4 an hour or more. Applicants should have a home telephone and a car, but neither is absolutely neces sary, Mileage will be paid when a personal car is used for census work. For more information con tact David S. Trailing 51-41, Robin LaRue hit a 25-foot bomb then hit a free throw and Patton scored inside to cut the lead in half at 51-46. Prospect increased that lead to 59-50 but Gregg Rietmann sank an outside shot and Stefani sank three 20-foot shots and drove inside for another score to give lone the lead at 60-59. Prospect turn- Heppner, Riverside mark up impressive records in Columbia Basin League play Final statistics for the 1979-80 Columbia Basin Con ference basketball season have been accumulated by league officials. Riverside and Heppner fared well in some of the categories. Heppner's Fillies came in second place in the East Division of the CBC with a 9-4 record behind Pilot Rock's 12-1 mark. Weston McEwen was third, at 6-7. and Stanfield and Umatilla tied for last place at 2-11. Riverside's Pirate boys' team came in first place in the West Division of the CBC with an 11-2 record. Sherman was second at 8-5. Wahtonka and Wasco County tied for third at and Condon was 2-11. The Heppner Mustangs were third in the CBC East Division with a 7-6 league record. Pilot Rock was first at Public Notice 21-1 and Weston-McEwen sec ond at 11-2 with Stanfield fourth at 4-9 and Umatilla last at 0-13. Riverside's girls' team was last in the West Division of the CBC with an 0-13 record. Wasco County was first at 13-0. Condon second at 9-4. Sherman third at 7-6. and Wahtonka fourth at 4-9. In the boys' statistics. Pilot Rock was first in team offense averaging 67.2 points a game with Riverside third at 64.1 and Heppner fifth with 61.2. Weston-McEwen was first in team defense with 47.8 a game with Riverside second at 50.6 and Heppner fifth with 56.7. Asnley of Wasco County was the leading scorer in the league averaging 24.2 points a game. Lerry Wilson was eighth in the league with 14.3 a game and Jim Parker of Public Notice Heppner was tenth scoring at a 13.9 clip. Hughes of Stanfield was the league's leading rebounder averaging 14.3 a game with Wilson of Riverside grabbing 11.6a game for third place and Dale Holland of Heppner sixth with 8.8 per game. Little 5-foot -7 guard Scott Daniels of Riverside was the leading shooter in the league as he sank 64 6 percent of his shots. Stacy Coleman of Ri verside sank 54.5 percent of his shots to place sixth in the league and Sam Griffin, also of Riverside, was ninth in the league making 74-of-146 shots for 50.7 percent. Wahtonka 's Blake finished first in the league in free throw shooting making 25-of-' 30 for 83.3 percent. Riverside's Coleman made 24-of-34 for 70.6 Public Notice percent for sixth place and Heppner's Dorian Forrar made 21 -of -30 for 70 percent and eighth place. In the girls statistics. Pilot Rock was first in the league in offense with 53.7 a game and Heppner was fourth with 43.2. Riverside was ninth with 28.5 In defense. Pilot Rwk was first giving up 28.3 points a game and Heppner was third with 33 5 a game and River side last with 49 4 Kennedy of Wasco County led the league in scoring with 19.2 points a game and Karen Harding of Riverside was fifth with 13.1 a game and Mary Kincaid of Heppner was seventh with 11.8 a game. !. Public Notice , overs aided the comeback but lone was just as generous as they turned the ball over twice after taking the lead and Prospect scored to take a 63-60 lead. Two more baskets by Stefani were not enough as lone fell one-point short in what had to be the most exciting game of an excellent tournament. lone was outrebotinded 37 to 20 but Prospect had more turnovers, 30 to 20. lone shot 41 percent from the field, 28 of 68, while the Cougars shot an amazing 61 percent, 2" of 44. lone lost the game at the foul line making only 8 of 15 while Prospect made 11 of 20. Stefani led lone in scoring with 22 points and Robin La Hue bounced back to score 13. Rietmann and Patton scored 10 apiece. Shawn LaRue had four, Jim McCabe threeund Treve Peterson two.
